GDT: 2024-25 season game 48 LA Kings vs Florida Panthers @4:00pm 1/29/25

Its a f***ing joke Lewis still gets to play. He got his historic 1000th game, now bench his ass for the rest of the year. At this point it would be better if they miss the playoffs, we might see the end of the dismal Blucgevin regime. 2025 is f***ing beyond cursed so far...

I admit, there have been times the past few years where I've entertained the thought of this front office being on some galaxy brain, 5D chess type of thinking. Like maybe they DO know better than all of us... Then they do something like sit their best offensive D and play Doughty the most minutes of any other Kings D-man, only for him to go -2... and yeah, they really are that bad at their jobs.

Kopi just can not drag this team year after year as a 1 C
Until Byfield or someone else jumps in , there is no hope for the Kings

We drafted him in 2020, as a center, and here we are almost 5 years later finally putting him a consistent center role. It's pretty insane it's taken them that long to do this with a #2 OA pick.
I for one am shocked that the development paths used on every 1st round pick the Kings made between 2018-2021 have failed to produce results that have even come close to living up to the draft capital used on the players. It must just be horrible luck and circumstance, and not a flawed organizational philosophy with regards to player development. Would the results have been any better had Byfield been handled the way every other team in the NHL would have handled him? Well they certainly couldn't have been any worse, QB is one of the most disappointing #2 picks in recent memory, the only ones worse are players that are considered to be bad picks. You're right, he's not a bad player, or a bad person (as the strawman builders try and say when you criticize a young player) he's a 20 goal, 48 point, defensively responsible fringe 2/3 center, five seasons into being a #2 overall pick, that is very very far from what you are looking for at this stage from a player taken that high. Will he be a "top center" like the post you are replying to says? Maybe, maybe not. But with each passing month that chance becomes less and less as a player gets older, and the outliers people love to bring up (Tage Thompson) are just that, outliers. And another inconvenient truth, in the situations that the outlier does happen and the player figures it out at 24 or 25, it's usually on a different teams, not with the team that drafted the player, because the player has to escape a toxic situation to reach their potential.

But hey, can't wait to hear what the smooth talking used-car salesman scouting director says when he does the podcast tours this summer, last summer it was hyping the "slow-cook" while criticizing the development choices of other teams, specifically the two teams who's inferior development strategies have somehow turned the two players taken directly after QB in the 2020 draft into star players who are the best players on those teams. That and we will get Blake's college drinking buddy AGM to tell fans to cool it and be patient, that QB will be the player they expected right about the time his contract expires and he hits UFA.

And Pravda will tell us during the interviews how smart these guys are and how lucky we as fans are to have people like this making key decisions in the organization!

Corrupt organizations avoid transparency. Compare and contrast DL with Blake.. he held pressers all the time to openly explain what he was trying to do with the team - while Blake avoids the media at all costs. Theyre hiding because they are terrible at running the team in every aspect and dont want to get slammed. There is no one holding them to account and so there is no need to be accountable.

Sounds like a certain owner that shills garbage electric vehicles. I was just thinking how Blake's reign hasn't allowed real local media to critique anything he does. It seems like everyone is pre-vetted as to not rock the boat or question anything (much like another criminal administration currently in charge).

The best thing we can do as fans is vote with our wallets and basically boycott the Kings until drastic changes are made to the front office. Its the last true form of "democracy" we have. I really regret getting those Calgary tix before the fires happened, not even sure I want to go to a post poned game in late April that might not mean anything. I could seriously see these guys missing the post season, which would be for the better.

I'm very concerned about the Kings... But I will say, it's hard to evaluate a team when virtually every single forward is cold/slumping.
They went 3-7-5 in January last season after one of hottest starts in the league. The team was 7-5-1 the year before that. At what point does this become a pattern? This January slump has become a trend with the Kings so, yes there is very real concern right now.

Some of them aren't slumping, it's a season long issue for Moore/Danault and to a degree Byfield/Fiala.
Kopitar has this type of a dry spell every year so it's not unexpected.
Turcotte's 3 in 16 is a 15 goal pace for a full season so not really a slump.
And no one expects Jeannot to score more than a handful of goals so I don't know why he's listed.

So in short, not all that unexpected this is happening now.

That's the thing though, it's always somebody. Last year it was PLD dragging people down despite Laf emerging, the year before that it was the whole bottom 6 getting pushed around. Another year, another round of excuses would be fine if the team had recent success. But it doesn't have that success and it's not enough any more.
