GDT: 2024-25 season game 41 LA Kings vs Edmonton Oilers @6:30pm 1/13/25

Laf was trash before the bad penalty. Being down a forward already though makes it rough but this is a lose the battle, win the war teaching moment. This team wins 5v5 and is absolutely horrific at any sort of even strength play when it isn't 5v5.

Also, you've got to get your money's worth. That was a two minute "retaliation" holding penalty. Holding.

Thought Fiala was garbage. Clarke was an adventure. Main takeaway was that Kopitar had the piano on his back and it felt like I was watching the playoffs already. Hard ask for the old man to chase McDrai all night.

Just wondering if Hiller will switch to 12 F 6D once Doughty is back? This team is so anemic scoring goals, that we 12 F again. I'm also wondering how Doughty is gonna help our PP, because it's really bad.

Fiala's offense has gone 0.

Oilers didn't even play particularly well.....and still shut us out.

Kopitar's mid-season slump has arrived.

Moore looked terrible.

Where's Danault?

I'm willing to grant that Lewis probably provides great value in the locker room and practice rink, but at this point, he's a net negative on the ice.

3:19 to go and faceoff. Your last shift, before perhaps pulling your goalie and Hiller goes with Danault-Moore-Lewis. You must score 1, or you lose. The worst 3 forwards of the 11. I'd even rather choose Jeannot over 1 of them...he could crash the net and get a dirty one....but of course, I'm going with only Kempe, Kopitar, Byfield, Foegele, Fiala, Turcotte, Laferriere....the last 3:19. How can you possibly ice those 3? Moore was terrible, Danault has done nothing offensively in 2025 and Lewis would not be one of the top 9 Reign forwards right now. WTAF?

I was wrong about my last post of the Kings will go nowhere, scoring 1,2 goals, the rest of the way. I forgot 0.

I thought Edmundson was the worst offseason move, the day he signed....and knew that was not so, since November. The 2 worst ones that have cost the Kings: hiring Newell Brown and giving Lewis another year. Wasn't there a statement about how Lewis would be there to be part of the group, but probably not get 82 games?

Hiller going to die with veterans: Danault, Moore, Lewis. Many knew the day Danault signed...."he may well be good for 3 years....but that 4th and 5th year..." Truth. Moore. If Turcotte or Laferriere fell at the goalmouth on that McDavid goal, they are benched the rest of the game. I have no issue with the Laferriere penalty. Usually, a teammate would have taken issue there. McDavid could have possibly got a boarding penalty there, anyway. (seen many worse calls all yr)

Moore is not cut out for this style of tight checking hockey. That's fine. Trade him to DRW so he can play Todd hockey or one of the teams that struggles getting people to sign like Buffalo or Ottawa.

Team starts out fast. By the second they've noticeably slowed. By the 3rd they're tired. Maybe the 11/7 & dropping to 3 lines in the 3rd is wearing on the team.

Hiller: That was some gutless hockey tonight. I have no confidence that the hockey we saw tonight can be successful in the playoffs. Oilers aren't as good of a team as they were last year. Even if the King's sneak by them, are they going to try & play Vegas like we saw tonight? 😂

This is my problem with Hiller. We're at about the half way point and he isn't fixing problems. Some of the "problems" may even be part of his plan.

I think if anything we learned tonight that Byfield and Foegele vs the oilers top players is fine

Buuuuut the third part of that line may need to be Turcotte or a trade deadline addition because Moore is currently trash and jeannot can’t keep up

Under .500 vs the pacific says this is just the same team as the last four years

We keep adding different toppings but it’s still a shit sundae
Statement that Moore is currently trash in my view should be converted to Moore is trash.

After all these years, it really shouldn't surprise me, but the combined lack of hockey knowledge in this forum drops dramatically during games....

Last night's game was tight, zero room, Kings needed to bury the Kempe shot, the Byfield shot, the Foegle jam, and maybe 2 or 3 others,

Oilers buried one of there 3 chances, they had 26 shots from the "house" but only a few were dangerous, Kings had about 24 shots from the "house" and there maybe 4 dangerous ones?

That was a playoff game that was completely winnable, didn't get a bounce, didn't get a call here or there (not that it would have mattered on the power play to be frank)

But a lot of you guys are acting like the sky is falling.....it would be more amusing if it wasn't status quo.

You are not wrong. I am not at the sky is falling level just yet. The thing is you are starting to see them hit a wall in certain areas of the game and if they dont get a grip on it the sky will start falling.

53 points in 41 games, folks. That's a 106-point season pace...all without Doughty. 53 points where they played only 17 games at home and 24 on the road. That means, in their next 41 games, they play 24 at home...oh yeah, forgot to mention they have the best home record in the league.

However, according to many posts in this thread, it appears the season is over because we've lost two in a row.....TWO. Love this place, never change.

Oh don't get me wrong, they need to work on aspects of their game, there's not a team in the league who doesn't, I'm saying that game was not NEARLY as bad as people think it was, people are bitching about Moore of all people....who got outworked/skilled by the 2nd best player in the league.....after coming back from injury.....

Makes you wonder where those fans left their helmets to be honest....

Yea well thats just it right there. Moore got outworked. Hes not fully on his game after coming back from injury and has been off all year. Why does Hiller put him out there against those two in a special teams situation that favors them? He has a bench of players that got the job done fine before.
The thing about the two losses is they were both winnable games. They looked good both 1st periods. Is the 11-7 starting to catch up to some of the veterans on the road maybe

Part of it is, now that I am thinking about it a bit more, they are thinking too much out there, sounds counter-productive I know, but the game is simple, skate, hit, shoot, pass.....they have gotten so far away from the shot mentality, it's stupid. The 1st PP on Calgary, 9 shots....in a 2 minute span......yet how many periods have we seen that they have less than 9 shots TOTAL.....way too many.....shoot the puck, you never know what's going to happen, it's insane that that concept isn't prevalent.

Who was just on? Byfield and Foegle? Kempe/Kopitar etc?

You have to play the players you have....Moore and Lewis just coming back from injury, if you aren't playing them now....when are you playing them?

Absolutely, the 30ish+ year olds look absolutely brutal right now. It's not like Lewis, Kopitar, Moore, Danault et al forgot how to play hockey in a week, no matter how much I like to bang on some of those dudes, and Kopitar is right back up to 20+ minutes again. I mentioned it before Calgary, there's no reason you shouldn't be rotating some guys in and out right now, or at least 12-6 for a night. If you're superstitious and HAVE to run 11-7 and you're going to give some liability ass dman 5 minutes, then you can't have a 37 year old in there getting 20 minutes on the road for 3 games in 96 hours. And now you have to wonder how it will affect the next stretch of games, too. Those coaching decisions have literally lost us these games.

Says a guy whose avatar is a freaking doll?

The same doll playing man who called me a 12 year old.

You are freaking full of it doll boy!
Ummm, I know you have limited brain capabilities, but I was mocking him -- that's the exact same line he said a few post above 15 minutes before. What a maroon!

BTW, that's not a doll lol. Try harder next time.

Did you even watch the game last night?
Man, it’s gotta be hard living a double life as two posters that argue with one another. Did you mean to respond to this post logged in as Sol?

Two sides of the ledger, using the same arguments, is honestly crazy work. Bravo.

As far as that argument goes, yes, I was unfortunate enough to watch a team run out of gas starting at the end of the first period, and then watch the oilers skate around them for the next two frames. Oddly similar to the Calgary game.

Responding to the bolded, absolutely, love Lewis....think he's been fine this year when healthy, but 11-7, gonna kill him....Kopitar...same thing....granted neither of them are double shifting as much....again, typically its Byfield, Fiala, Danault, Jeannot, Foegle, Turcotte....but it's gonna catch up to them, and near the end of the game, 10 minutes left etc, it's gonna shorten your bench even more....

lol, one day I'm accused of being SN, now I'm Sol! Now, that's a f***ing insult...how dare you.

With the way I can change aliases around here, I should teach Jesse how to do it so he doesn't have to worry about what he's posting all the time.

As far as the game last night, did you expect the Kings to dominate a legit Stanley Cup contender for 60 minutes? That would kind of be an unrealistic expectation, don't ya think? Kings held their own, if you didn't see that...you were either watching something else or refuse to accept what you were watching.
