GDT: 2024-25 season game 36 LA kings vs Philadelphia Flyers @6:00pm 12/29/24

I don't tend to get on the case of the refs because the game moves so fast, but good lord, how the hell is Byfield call for roughing there? It also annoys me that the TV broadcast didn't even bother to show a replay.

Yeah I was wondering why they didn't show it and now seeing this replay it's pretty obvious he swung his stick at his face.

There have been more than handful of times this year when they haven't showed replies and left me scratching my head why. I know they've done it with fights which I guess isn't surprising, but I still think that is ridiculous.

Pretty crazy that Kopitar is producing at PPG while performing better than last year. Just to think how much miles Mclellan put on Kopitar when he didn’t need to. I am not sure his average this season but Kopitar seems to be playing less and is looking better for it.

I will always hate what McLellan did to this team.

That wasnt a hockey play.. 5 min intent to injure.. And how they gave QB roughing - those refs sucked shit last night... missed a lot of calls.

It was so f***ing dirty. I mean fine give Q 2 if you're being prissy, but that stick is a 5 to me, at worst a 4.

Same thing happened when he left SJ. Thornton had a great year or two right after because they started resting him more.

Agree where is the f-in replay.. normally Fox would be all over that and say the league needs to review this

Actual ATOI is only down about a minute this season in comparison to the rest of the Toddfather era, but the deployment certainly seems to be less “heavy” for Kopitar.

Foxy is too busy yelling at clouds, and sharpening his critiques of rookies & younger players.

LOL Jesus Christ....that makes literally...no sense.

So we want our players to respond when something dirty happens, but when they do, it's not a good thing....yea...par for the course for your logic.
It's not that hard. Burroughs isn't tough. He just sucks. A mean face wash & scrum isn't a response. If you're going to take a penalty responding earn it. Burroughs just put the team in a worse position for his fake tough guy response.

I’m starting to think you don’t like Hiller.

Didn't like some of his stupid moves from last year. Decided to give him a clean slate this year. He's made some dumb moves this year, but corrected out of most of them quickly. PK stacking guys on the blue line & not pressuring up ice with the King's speed for instance. Hiller realized it wasn't working & changed it back in a few games. This Burroughs crap is unforgivable. Guy is giving up goals in less than 5 minutes of ice time. McDermid was better than that.

No Lewis, No moore, and Burrouhs. Addition by subtraction.

WOAH!!!! Why is Lewis on this list!!!!

While McLellan was coach, Kopitar averaged 20:35 per game.

1:50 shorthanded
3:09 powerplay
15:37 even strength

24.3 shifts/game

This season:
19:20 total
1:08 shorthanded
2:38 powerplay
15:34 even strength

22.1 shifts/game

Small drop in ice time and shifts, but enough where it keeps him fresher.

Got it, so you don't want a response when players get hit....that's all you had to say.

Either punch someone in the face or light someone up on the next shift or take the PP.

Don't face wash in a scrum & get a penalty for and pretend it's a response.

You know he threw a right hook right? That's what the call was for.....

So like I said, just say you don't want a response.....that's more honest.

Burroughs gave him some good noogies in there I'm sure. That was about the weakest response you could get for a penalty. Dude is trash. Cost the team 2 goals in 3 minutes & 41 seconds.

Edit: Let's try math
5 min + 2 minutes is a response
2 minutes is a joke & just cost the team.

The riding of Hiller is certainly misplaced this early into his (somewhat successful) tenure, but the issue with Burroughs is legitimate.

I understand the goal here, but Burroughs is best serving the organization in Ontario, as he simply cannot play NHL hockey with any sort of regularity.
I completely agree about Burroughs, to be clear however the general riding of Hiller on various things is very misplaced IMO.

Each to their own, but from a big picture standpoint I struggle to see how anyone can be down on Hiller. Sure let’s not get carried away, because it is a relatively small sample size (with special teams needing work), but I struggle to see why anyone would has a pessimistic view of his tenure.

Oh...so you wanted him to put LA down for 5 minutes.....and that would have been fine....

But 4 v 4 is putting them in a WORSE position?

Jesus Christ......scary thing is you aren't f***ing around, you are serious.

Cause offsetting fighting majors puts you down 5. Ok bro.

Are you just purposely not getting the point? Just curious.

You don't get 5+2 for offsetting fighting majors....

I get the point, you know f***all about the game, we've established that,

We get it, you don't like Burroughs, you don't like Hiller, but here you are making shit up, to shit on them.....or at least Burroughs.... just say you don't understand what happened and move on..

You think he was at fault for Laughton's goal, but you have no f***ing idea who he was covering at the time that pulled him away.....do you?

Its not the first time hes gone in too hot into a scrum and got a penalty. If you arent going to fight you need to have some finesse about it. Every other tough guy goes into that situation without getting a penalty or just fights.
And if that was the only thing hes done hed get more rope. But he gets burned all the time. On the next goal after his penalty it may not have been his man but he was standing right there puck watching.
With Burroughs its not just one thing its everything.

I only see him over 22 min twice this season so far

Last season towards the end of the year when it was most visible he needed rest he played 3 in 4 nights on the road at 20.5, 23.5, 22. Played over 22 min 9 times, lots more in the high 21, played nearly 24 min several times.

It doesn't look like much on paper I agree but it's significant.

No he got suckered into dropping the gloves that one game, so he didn't do it this game, and still gets a penalty, can't win, but I guarantee you if he drops there and fights, it's not offsetting majors.

As far as the goal itself, he was covering the open guy who was trying to back off to get a pass, which is the right move. The goal itself was a fluke bounce that just happens, our goaltenders, both of them, rebound control rivals the local Peewee house league, Doughty could have been there, and that goal is still being scored the way it bounced. Laughton wasn't standing there, he was skating through and it dropped in front of him, there's no stopping that.

Do I like this player, not really, he's sufficient, that's probably the best thing I can say about him,

But if people are going to "hate" on players, use facts not feelings, and when you use your facts, get them right, that's all.

It's just stupid. The only person in the league (arguable that he's there) that thinks he's tough is Kaliyev. No one takes him seriously as a physical presence or a scrapper and he just keeps going in there and getting two stupid minutes for glove punches repeatedly. f***ing worthless piece of shit. I'm hard pressed to think of a King I've hated more, every shift he's hanging on for dear life playing some sort of dumbass individual zone defense so he doesn't get torched and still does, and god help us if he DOES get the puck. There are seriously NO redeeming qualities. There is not one single thing he does well at an NHL level except grow a mustache.
