Remember how great Jeff Carter was in OT?
Kings aren’t missing Jeff Carter. They’re missing good coaching when it isn’t 5v5.

Byfield has Carters speed and size to fly in 3v3 but never sees ice.

This isn’t a roster issue, this is bad coaching in these situations. Throwing away points in OT and throwing away points by having an awful PP.

I have been impressed by Hiller but his shortcomings in these instances are all too apparent

Yea I like Hiller but he morphs into Maclellan when 3 on 3 OT starts. Whenever he does things conservatively they faulter.
Kempe Byfield Foegele Turcotte Clarke Spence may take their lumps and lose a couple before they get their footing in overtime but its time to start making the transition to these guys that have speed.

It would be nice to have the puck for a change in OT. All 5 OT's this year we lost the draw and were chasing.

It's frustrating, because I've liked Hiller since I've learned about him. But even though he's lamented not giving Turcotte more ice time, he hasn't learned/become comfortable with the notion of putting younger players out there. He leans on the vets too much.

And I know you like Fiala, but I don't think 3-on-3 serves him well. While he has a lot of open ice to take advantage of, he's at his best when he has more options and to be deceptive. Especially since he does like high-risk plays, the consequences get magnified. It's why he's great on the powerplay - he has a lethal shot, can make sneaky passes, and even if there's a miscue/misfire, he has more teammates to help regain control the situation.

3-on-3 is best for players like Byfield, Kempe, Kopitar, Thomas, Foegele, and Moore (when he's healthy). These are players who do better with fewer options, but they also have speed and/or strength to generate chances. There's also little grinding/board battles, so it doesn't play to the strengths of players like Turcotte, Laferriere, Danault, etc.

But again, I think Hiller feels more comfortable with experience - compatibility with the situation be damned.

Hiller sucks

Burroughs, why the f*** is Burroughs out there for 5 minutes? 5 minutes of garbage play & game. No room for stupid when trying to win 2:1.

PP still sucks

Blake sucks for starting the season without a right shot that can one time a puck. He also hasn't addressed it. Maybe instead of Burroughs getting 5 mins they could give Fagemo 3 shifts on the 4th line & have him stand in the left face-off circle on the PP. It's beyond stupid. King's have multiple roster spots filled with plugs. Put a plug in that fixes a problem.
Costing points in the standings.

OT sucks

Fire the front office.

I have noticed 3 on 3 for Fiala is not where he shines and his issues magnify. The thing that bothers me isn’t that honestly, I can’t name anyone who’s been good on the other hand. I’m all for putting players in good situations but the Kings lose so fast 3v3 and lose convincingly that it is hard for me to say X has been bad but Y has been good. No one has been good and I have no idea why we’re not at least giving someone else a chance. Strictly a Hiller issue and I would be misplacing blame if I picked on players for playing poorly 3 on 3. Like I feel like there is zero convincing argument why Byfield is on the bench when he can skate so fast with his size. And even Turcotte who is such a good play maker. Makes no sense. You’re losing anyways, why not change it up?

Wouldnt it be great if we could like, get a point fir every period we played ahead on the scoreboard?
The loser point and overtime is dumb ass because it decreases competitiveness and whats to keep teams from just playing for overtime? Teams can do this and with some wins get the traditional 90 pts. And as was said earlier ot doesnt happen in the playoffs. So the loser point really cheapens the product.
The leauge should go back to this real hockey and dump the loser point but the nhl also thinks its s great idea to contract with 3 tv/video providers so the leauge is about as sharp as a ball bearing and would rather have exhibitions than real hockey.

Fiala doesnt belong on the power play.
He belongs in the ice capades. Or maybe the harlem globetrotters. Hiw about as a rodeo clown on ice? Luc would like him to rodeo clown between periods cross dressed after the bozo the clown outfit

That Byfield Goal was a beauty...that's where he needs to park himself in the Slot like Phil Esposito did and made quite a living doing so...all QB needs to do is get more physical he has the build and potential...now just do it!!!
Nobody cant deny the last two snipe goals from Byfield were pretty ok for somebody whose shooting ability is above average at best.

Even his empty netter was better than average.

Hopefully this will continue.

With respect I think it's a little of both.

It's a low-high-end-talent roster when it comes to special teams offensive situations, including PP, 4v4, 3v3, shootout.

But those roster concerns are absolutely magnified by the coaching, particularly in 3v3 and in the PP setup, good grief.

I wonder if it's actually good we suck at OT/SO.

You can't rely on that to win games. It doesn't exist in the playoffs.

Make it a habit to win games via real hockey.

Yeah that thought crosses my mind every time we're tied at the end of regulation but the problem is it carries over to the other special teams and that's literally what's sunk us each playoff thus far...PP/PK/non-5v5 DOES unfortunately for us exist in the playoffs and even carrying 90% of the game doesn't matter when the opposing special teams are firing off on you at 50%. I know what you're saying though and I agree. I try not to get too bent about the 'lost' points...but right now it's the difference between winning the division and seeing the Oilers again so there's that too.

Turcotte is built for OT. Speed and tenacity. Get him out there with Byfield and Clarke. Can’t do any worse.

Man I would NOT want to see Turcotte nipping at my ankles for an entire OT haha. He's relentless and perfect for it.

I am actually kind of shocked how bad Hiller is at those situations given how outside-the-box he is for trying other stuff. Hell he's long past the point I expected him to start OT with like Byfield-Kopitar-Kempe on D
