I may have missed some quoted posts but Fiala reminds me way too much of athanasiou

He’ll put up points but he’s also completely self destructive. Remember when I said AA will lose us a series then he handed a soft turnover to McDavid on a silver platter? Same type of player. And similarly Fiala has been worthless at best in the playoffs, just fortunate he hasn’t been literally damaging so far

I’d love to be wrong and I’m rooting for him. I want to love him but he’s endlessly frustrating. I do think there’s a difference and it’s that Fiala cares and the effort is there. But so far the results are the same because the mental game is inconsistent and the mental fortitude it takes to play disciplined consistently isn’t there. I don’t mind a guy taking calculated risks but this isn’t that, this is a dude whose recklessness is beyond any player I’ve ever seen

Even when he was playing his best hockey as a King, he wasn't very popular around here. This forum has a type of player it really likes and dislikes, and Fiala is certainly not the type of player many here have a soft spot for.

I think he's actually slightly underrated at this point, he's struggled for sure, but sometimes people act like he's an AHL'er.
I like Fiala for his entertainment value and ability to create - which is in short supply on this team.. but he lacks common sense and situational awareness to such an extent that you shake your head.

Aside from calling Fiala extremely talented who is hard to play with and makes unnecessarily selfish and stupid plays, what else has been said that suggests people have underrated him?

The "worst" (or most critical) thing I've heard about him is when bland called him a third liner, and that was at the time of the trade. But maybe I've missed something more ctitical?

2/3 people around here are clearly extremely biased against him. To the point it gets annoying.

I just realized that Carrlyn is around 5-8 cause she's the same height as Foxy and Evans and both of them were 5-8 Forwards for the Kings in the 80's...of course Jimmie had more of a distinguished career until injuries cut it short

Having said that Evans was the hero in the Miracle on Manchester that saw our beloved Kings beat the Gretzky,Messier led Oilers...I loved that as I hated the Oilers to the very depth of my being then

Kings have bounced back well after bad losses this year. They've only been pointless in consecutive games once this entire season.

Feels like Hiller should get some credit for that.

If you're the Rangers, how are you feeling about the Shesterkin contract?
Hard to blame Shesterkin. As has been the case much of the year, the Rangers defensive play was epically terrible. There's a reason Shesterkin's save percentage is middling this year but is near the top of the league in goals saved above expected.

E.g.,

Its good to see the schedule makers actually giving a rats ass about the KIngs and not giving them back to backs on consecutive days those are brutal for anyone cause Hockey is a very physical and demanding sport unlike others

Hated it, really really hated it.

I'd just never pay a goaltender that much with the way the game is structured and officiated now. I think 99/100 times you are better off having having an $8.5m center and a $3m goaltender than an $11m goaltender and a replacement caliber forward. The rules are just never going to be geared towards teams trying to win lower scoring games like many of us grew up watching (and in hindsight it was a truly garbage product), those days are gone and will never return, and that is why so few teams are spending so much or using draft capital on goaltenders.

It's a similar reason why Rob Blake building a dead-puck era team in the 2020's has failed in the playoffs.

Washington?

I've been pointing out the regulation wins for awhile. NJ is the only team that has more (and they've played 3 more games than us).

It's really surprising. There's no 3-on-3 or shootout in the playoffs.
Caps have been so-so at home, much better on the road. Then again, the Kings have been the opposite. They should take at least 6 of the next 8 points available to them.

Goaltenders, while extremely valuable, should never be scheduled to become the highest-paid player. They don'tplay in every game, and their contributions are virtually limited to one half of the ice.

I know, there's a meta that if the team is confident their goalie will make a save, they can be more aggressive, but the team still needs to come back to support their goalie.

It's also why I'm fairly bullish on using a first-round pick on them, except if you have multiple picks.
