a lot of people need to eat crow. myself included. blake had a very good offseason, signing edmundson and foegle.
The problem is the offense isn't good enough to overcome the goaltending in the post season. Blake locked that goaltending in for 2? More seasons at 5.25.

Winning is fun. Chasing playoffs is fun. Ultimately this is a flawed roster waiting on Kopitar to hit the wall.

every team is flawed, rarely do you get perfect rosters. you think this teams offense is bad. look at 2012, without the call ups and carter trade, no cup. if blake can add offense this TDL and the team plays defense like it is currently they have a chance like any other contender.

No they don't.

This team doesn't have the pedigree.

There's very little roster flexibility. Team is near the cap when Doughty comes off LTIR. They won't be banking a ton of space.

Call-ups from Ontario that are near NHL level are Kaliyev or Fagemo.

Clearing cap space out looks like cutting Moore or Jeannot. Gavrikov maybe if he isn't going to re-sign. This is looking like an own rental situation. Blake's options at the deadline are looking limited.

Let's talk in April and May. I'll be elated to eat a f***ing platter of crow if served correctly. Dodgers served me up a delicious feast in October.

Yeah I was 'here we go again' with the Dodgers vs. the Fraudres even after Ohtani's HR

Kings are gonna have to do a lot more to impress me than have the regular season they should be having

This is a team that hasn't won a playoff round--a record of 7-20--in a decade. Miss me with the crow-eating for having a good team for the most meaningless quarter of the season.

Nice job Kings! Keep it up.
So glad we've finally got some toughness on the team. Worst was losing while being bullied all game long like some pencil necked geek.
While these wins are fun & good....we've seen this story before -- LA Kings regular season success. Three times in a row being fooled come playoff time. Ultimately, they will have to prove on the ice they are different this year once we get to the SC playoffs -- with an actual series win (at least one from crying out loud). In the meantime, keep piling up the wins and get Q a proper shooting coach.

The only objective the Kings should have today is to pile up enough points to secure home-ice in 1st round of playoffs.

I think what the Kings have working in the favor the "most" (after their defense) is that the rest of the league (and maybe sports everywhere?) is in a down season. I don't know if it's parity or the flat cap for a few seasons but I haven't been tremendously impressed with any of the teams the Kings have seen so far this season.

Being extremely good at one thing may be enough when the rest of the league is fair to middling.

As for the trade deadline and depth...

I feel like everybody loves to forget that the Kings had Carter and Richards on total cap circumventing deals and acquired Gaborik at 50% salary retention at a point in his career where he was contemplating retirement (go listen to the 2014 anniversary episode of Channel '67)

Had they tried to construct that team outside that window from 2005 - 2013 there's no way it's possible.

If the Kings want to target upgrades at the deadline they would do well to look for players in a spot like Gaborik was. Diamonds in the rough with low perceived market value with a huge upside that could be had a huge discount.

Just my .02

I am just as confused as everybody else here about how well the Kings are doing. I am very much in a wait and see situation. Not getting my hopes up but am very much enjoying the wins.

I'm not confused -- just like I won't be having a coronary when they go through a losing streak (it will happen) - ebbs and flows, long season. Nothing in the first 30 games really means anything at this point.

They had a better record last year at this point and still ended up firing the head coach.

The depth around the league is horrific. Think it's salary cap, expansion & 3/4 of the teams being in the playoff race because of 3 point games. More teams going for it & not enough players to go around. Only about 4 teams in each conference are out of the running.

Bennett making something like 8 million is insane, but there's not much else out there. Boston is trying to compete with Coyle & Zacha. NYR just tried Kakko at center the other week.

I have been happy with the team since July 1st. Kids are finally getting looks in roles they deserve, the trenches were reinforced, and all the glaring weaknesses were acknowledged if not addressed.

The miles will still catch up to Anze come April, a series is much more difficult to defend in than individual games against opponents who aren't scheming against you, Fiala will likely be a problem again, and the goaltending will likely suffer. But, Doughty should be fresh, the kids are providing new depth, and there is room for an addition later in the year.

The key is getting home ice and pushing for the division title to provide a likely less lethal opening round matchup.

Or, if the wheels fall off in the next two months, there are quality pieces to use to restore the asset list at the deadline.

The suffering looks to be over in favor of pragmatic progress for the first time in Blake's tenure.

Beating MN, WPG and DAL in the current win streak is impressive. I don't think it makes anyone a pessimist to not be celebrating success this early in the season. From my memory the team started out pretty well last year until the epic losing streak. The Kings have also faired pretty well against Edmonton in at least a few of the past three years during the regular season only to run into a wall when it matters most.

If the Kings are going to have any kind of success in the post season they are going to have to rely on the entire team playing well together like they have been this season. There is no individual talent that is going to carry them through a series. They are also going to have to stay healthy. It will be interesting to see what kind of impact Doughty has when he eventually returns.
