Speculation: 2024-25 Roster Thread

I’m really becoming excited about the idea of seeing Mac and Z paired together for a decade.

And maybe with Colangelo too.

I really like them together but I also want a better center for Terry. I'm not a big fan of the Vat-Strome-Terry line. I also tend to think we would have a log jam at LW if we acquired a top 6 RW like we want. I can't really see Killorn, Vatrano or Gauthier on the 4th line, or Strome for that matter.
Gauthier-Carlsson-xx
Vatrano-McT-Terry
Killorn-Z-Strome
Nesterenko-xx-Colangelo
Maybe we can trade Strome this summer but I think they like him for his leadership. I suppose it could just be a 3rd line of Vatrano-Strome-Killorn. I think I'd prefer that. None of these I'm really enamored with to be honest.

Experiment with Cutter at C ? He was a Center prospect with the Flyers. Heard he trains in offseason with Kesler so maybe he can help get good at faceoffs.

If Verbeek acquires a vet winger in the offseason, Colangelo will be a 4th liner or in SD. This coach will never drop Strome, Vatrano, or Killorn in the lineup.

It would be shame, especially now that Colangelo has been put into a position to succeed by playing with offensive players than be put into a grinding role; which was what his role assigned by Cronin in Colangelo's first (8 games) and second (4 games) call-ups. The only exception was playing with Vatrano and Strome for one game when Terry was out due to the birth of his kid, iirc.

The team wants goal scoring and look at what we have here in Colangelo when put into an offensive role. He was a goal scoring machine in the AHL. In fact, he's still the top goal scorer (tied) for the Gulls today (April 1, 2025) despite missing half the season due to NHL call-ups with 19 goals. I'd rather have one of our vets bumped down if we add an actual top-6F. But if that doesn't happen, then we probably won't see Gudas bumped down from the top pairing next year either, which would be a terrible thing for the club.

We are not a good team. Leo and Mac producing under Cronin is beyond a miracle....

The leafs being slightly above mid is so funny, if they don't have a noteworthy playoff experience this year just redo it all...

I kinda liked their deadline adds but they still have no true 1 D, just a number of weak 3s and 6s (Tanev is good, but he is also their best D and that's a problem).

Also while I liked the Laughton move, the earlier returns are very worrisome...

Please let the funniest possible option happen Lord!

I never got the deal with Laughton. Seems highly over-rated.

With all this talk about kids' scoring improved since the 4 Nations, I figure I'd collect the splits.

The forward kids are alright. All of them have a high ppg rate as well as improved +/- ratings for the Post 4 Nations. Goalangelo is just an apt name for Colangelo. The odd part is most of Colangelo's goals come from his net front presence, but he possesses more offensive talent than tips and net front rebounds. It's great seeing two youth forwards at a ppg rate!

LaCombe hit rock star status before 4 Nations. Zellweger's scoring remains the same, but he is also now playing 2nd pairing minutes. Minty-Helleson are the third pairing and their +/- is much better. All three of Zell, Minty, and Helleson have benefited from Dumo being traded because they're no longer in rotation. All of them needed the reps and it's showing positive play on the ice.
