Speculation: 2024-25 Roster thread

We might have a problem if injuries does hit our blueline. We traded away Fowler and Vaak, but gained Trouba at the NHL level. We are left with only youths under contract in the AHL. We don't have veteran d-men under contract in the AHL.

AHL
  • LD Dionicio
  • LD/RD Hinds
  • RD Luneau
  • RD Warren

ECHL
  • RD Biakabutuka
There could be a possibility that we ice 5 youths on the blueline, especially if we ship off Dumo at the TDL. And Dionicio is being held out of playing due to off-ice stuff (bench issue as shared by @Static .)
i assume they’ll prob bring back a warm body, or pick someone off waivers at some point to be a 7th.

Did I see Dionicio hasn’t played in a month or something from being healthy scratched from Felix Sicard? Anyone know what’s going on there?

EDIT: Just saw HockeyDuckie mention Statics update

Can someone answer me this:

Keeping my hate for him aside - is there any reason why Cronin keeps throwing a blender to the forwards when it comes to Carlsson? I don't read the GDTs a ton, but it seems like there’s a different player on his line every other week.

Not sure how to describe this. But is this furthering an issue where they should’ve chose Fantilli instead to match his skill set with the roster that we have OR is the squad not talented/coaching staff not talented enough to utilize what is best for Carlsson?

When not injured, Leo has been with Killorn pretty much all season; Zegras was on the left until he got injured again, then they tried Leason in his place but he started to struggle; so now it's McGinn on LW.

We basically have the same team with forwards as last year. But …..

Vats and Strome 79 and 82 games played.
Terry - played 93% of the season
Leason - 83%
Ross Johnston - also somehow 83%
McT - 78%
Killorn - 77%
Leo - 67%
Isac - 56%
Zegras - 38%
McGinn - 29%
Cutter - 1 game.

Lost silf (81) / Rico (60) / Carrick (60)
Added fabri and harkins (bottom 6 and 4th line)

vats - mct - strome was our best line last year, although z - leo - terry looked great to start the year.

Vats - strome - terry is our best line this year, and z - Leo - killorn looked solid for a second.

Our top 6 played like 5 games last year, nobody has shown any real chemistry with each other yet, because they haven’t played together a lot. Z getting hurt again shuffles the top 6. Mcginn coming back from injury was one of our better players before getting hurt, a reward. With cutter and mct trying to develop some chemistry.

We’ve scored 22 goals in like 11 games, and Leo’s line has been nonexistent, throw Zelly out there on his wing for all I care hahaha.

Anyone know if Minty is recovering from an injury? He hasn’t taken a step forward and actually looks like he’s regressed this year. He hasn’t popped like he consistently did each game last year.

Well considering most of our younger players have it I'm afraid he has... Croninitis. Fortunately it's easy to diagnose and cure.

Not popping because he’s playing a more conservative game. Also starting a lot of shifts in the D zone and not playing much on the PP. Don’t think he’s regressed, just filling a different role.

Yeah he doesn't play a flashy game at all but he made multiple really stellar plays in the defensive zone last night.

Well, we're the 11th most improved team from last year, it appears.

It does seem we have gotten a bit lighter schedule so far tho. And while we have injuries, I think we were more injured last year. But still, nice to see I guess. We can do better tho.

Last year, Minty was in a sheltered on the 3rd pair to start the season in about 27 games. He scored 2g + 13a = 15pts (0.55 ppg) and a -3 rating. Then he struggled when elevated into a top-4 role. We had a preview of Minty in a top-pairing with Gudas for about 8 games as he scored 0g + 2a = 2 pts (0.25 ppg) and a -5 rating. Soon afterwards, he got injured and cut his season short.

This year, Minty started in a top-4 role and is still learning to adapt to that role. He has been struggling and was healthy scratched for three games. This is Minty's dev year into becoming our top-4D, potential top-pairing.
  • Last year: 63 games, ATOI = 18:51, CF % = 48.9 %, OZ Start% = 52.3%
  • This year: 26 games, ATOI = 20:20, CF % = 42.3 %, OZ Start% = 36.3%

Here was Minty's first game Stat Card for this season below. It shows the defense was on the positive side, but the offense was in the negative. It is all a part of the process of becoming a top-4D.

In our last game against the Jets, Minty's offense did spark to life a bit with 4 shots! That is the most he's recorded this season. The whole team played well against the Jets to where all of our d-men had over 60% OZ start.

Minty's offense will eventually shine through once he adapts defensively in a top-4 role. We just have to be patient because Minty shows signs he is gonna be a very good one for us!

The big question long term is whether Carlsson, McTavish, & Zegras are the top 3 centers or not. If they are, which pair up with Terry and Gauthier? If not, who becomes a winger?

Zegras has not been good at wing but showed chemistry with Carlsson. McTavish has been playing better and improving at face-offs but could be better suited at wing. Carlsson is the only one I'm certain is staying at center.

Sennecke will be on the ducks next season. He will bulk up more this off season. Get easier 3rd line matchups probably alongside MacT who imho is behind carlsson and Zegras

xxx-Carlsson-Terry
Cutter-Z-Sennecke

I want at least one big guy or defensively responsible guy on each pair. Colangelo looked to be on the same page with Mac in the little time they spent together.

Sennecke will be the ducks best player going forward I think.
