Blackhawks were out of the POs for 4 years, then 96 points, followed by 79, 59, 61, 71, 88 and the rest is history.

Hawks didn't start rebuilding until blowing it up in 03-04

Season went down tubes quick with the GM (Mike Smith) fired in October, Daze injured in Oct missing most of season and Thibault injured in Nov missing most of season

They traded what little we had that people wanted

- Jon Klemm + 4th to Stars for 2nd round pick + D Stephan Robidas
- Steve Sullivan to Preds for two 2nd round picks
- Alexander Karpovtsev to Isles for 4th round pick (Hawks selected Niklas Hjalmarsson)
- Nathan Dempsey to Kings for 4th round pick
- Alex Zhamnov + 4th to you guys for a 2nd round pick (Hawks selected Bryan Bickell), Colin Fraser and Jim Vandermeer

After season they didn't renew contract of Brian Sutter

The Hawks at time actually thought Tyler Arnason, Mark Bell and Kyle Calder (The ABC line) were what they were going to build around going forward with Tuomo Ruutu... So yeah that was the actual plan

The 2001-02 Blackhawks had 96 Points in large part because Eric Daze looked like the next great power forward.

They had two pretty good lines actually that year (Mix or matching depending on how Sutter felt that night)

Calder-Zhamnov-Amonte
Daze-Nylander-Sullivan

And Thibault was playing great until his usual issues of losing weight thru season and struggling at end because Sutter would overplay him

I hated Brian Sutter coaching Hawks

Eric Daze. Now that’s a blast from the past.
I thought for sure when I went back and looked that would be a 20% Shooting year or something. Nope. He probably did play that well.

He was establishing himself as a star at that point and then his back issues destroyed his career

Ended up needing 3 back surgeries in a 5 year span and his comeback attempts all ended with him in pain/discomfort while trying to skate. He ultimately announced his retirement in 2010

6 years ago, he got a night in his honor at UC and got to say what he termed a proper final goodbye to fans and end of his career he didn't to go thru because of injuries

Lives out in Burr Ridge I believe

Didnt Michkov use his uncertain Khl status to basically make sure he will fall to flyers. I don't expect him to be going anywhere. If anything it will help to alienate the room even more after the Couts debacle spelling timely end of Torts tenure. The issue however remains that higher ups haven't earned any confidence in being able to make right coaching choices going forward. And to be frank I dont see any changes on that front, but once again just rearranging chairs on the titanic.

torts just does this performative bullshit for his own f***ed up ideal of how things are supposed to work i guess. he is a moron. couldnt even coach a highschool football team, thats too complicated for him.
He already tried that. I think they made a movie about it.

Mike Rupp was on TSN and asked him about being scratched and does it help.

Told a story about being scratched in NJ and Lou asked him if he wanted to watch in the GM box. He accepted.

During the game, Elias made a great play and Lou showed no emotion. Then later someone else raced to the recline and dumped it in and Lou got all excited about a simple dump in.

He said he realized the coach and GM paid and played him so better off just doing what they like.

We are at this point...archaic as f***.

Im taking my dad to the game on Monday. Probably the only game we will get to this season so I spent more for better seats. He (and I) were very much looking forward to seeing MM...the main reason we wanted to go....and now we will not get to see him bc the coach doesnt give a shit about the fans.

So yeah Ant, im glad your bullshit explaination to try n win torts back over makes you feel better...but not really the point.

The objective is to win games.

If a player makes a highlight goal, great, that helps.

If a player makes the correct decision on a routine play, that helps. Not as much, but there are far more "routine" plays in a game than highlight plays, and screw up a routine play and you may give your opponent a highlight play.

Like most things in life, it's about balance and risk assessment.

Taking a risk to create a high danger play around the net is very different than taking a risk in the neutral zone that probably won't even result in a clean zone entry if successful.

It's not about discouraging players from taking risks, it's about encouraging players to take the right risks. Tippett's goal came off a blind pass by Hagel. That was a bad risk.

Michkov deciding to go back to Russia literally would be the funniest timeline possible.

I will never watch the Flyers again if this happens

Ok bro, so how many plays has Michkov made at 5v5 that were completely flubbed and you’re like oh my god when you’re watching it live. The kids 19, he’s a transcendent talent, you let him figure it out. If you watch the games as you say you do, I’m assuming you remember the Johnson flub on the goal line 5v5 that was a tap in goal (99% of nhl players tap that in) we have too many non-nhl players here, I can go on and on. Come on man. He’s had a few rough games let him work through it.

I have already resigned myself to their finishing 6th in the division, 13th in the East, and 25th in the league. Looking forward to the good, but nowhere near great, player they take at 8th overall.
