Yep.

Dickinson is having a good season, but his situation isn't too dissimilar to what Korchinski's was during his D+1 season. Left shot D with decent size and skating who is putting up points in the CHL. Not old enough for the AHL next year, so will have to either play another year in the CHL (hardly developing) or spend that time just trying to survive NHL minutes. I think it's funny when he's touted by many on HF as that club's future 1D at this early stage of his development.

They have no Lev. No Rinzel. No Vlasic. They have Mukhamadullin (had to look up that spelling) who is having a rough season in the AHL as a 23yo. They've also got Cagnoni who is putting up points, but is only 5ft9 (maybe 5ft10 these days). Most guys that size don't end up like Quinn Hughes or Lane Hutson. Sharks have jack shit on the right side in their system; and RHDs are some of the hardest pieces to acquire. There is no RHD in this draft either that would likely make a big impact for them there.

They beat us with regards to forwards. We've closed the gap, and maybe even surpassed them, in goal with knight. And our defense of the future is way more impressive than what few pieces they have there.
Knight was already further along in development last year than Askarov was this year. We are comfortably ahead in goal which is nice

It sucks for Mrazek, but it's a business.

Would love to see him moved in the next day or so, but doubt it unless we find a team that is desperate for a goalie and has a guy with a similarly bad cap hit for the next season or two.

Happy to see it's Knight and Soderblom though. Hopefully a duo we can rely on long term here.

looking forward to this coming week when we start seeing headlines like

"teams showing significant interest in Ryan Donato"

"sources say Dallas, Florida, Tampa, Detroit, and Columbus are all-in on a Seth Jones bidding war"
bum future predictor. the lukas reichel of psychic mediums.

Some crazy numbers about the roster right now:

The Hawks are actually 8th in the NHL in cap spend at $86.8M. But $10.3M of that is retentions and Josh Bailey's buyout. Then another $11.2M is Weber and Brossoit's hit. And another $4.25 is Athanasiou's hit who is on the Rockford roster. So that puts them at ~$61M - below the floor.

That ~$61M includes Brodie and Dickinson if you want to get real granular. But check this out:

The player with the highest cap hit on the roster right now is Tyler Bertuzzi at $5.5M. There are 173 players in the league that have a higher cap hit at the moment and every team has at least 3 players on their roster that makes more than that. Now that includes guys like Couture and Carey Price but still...

The Sharks have Vlasic at $7M which is the next lowest, highest cap hit player on an active roster along with Toffoli at $6M. The Blues have 9 - NINE players with a higher cap hit than Bertuzzi and there are a handful of teams that have 8. And the Hawks are still somewhat competitive.

With most of the retention and Athanasiou coming off the books and the option of putting Weber's hit on LTIR, this summer should be fun.

problem is who is worth spending it on? Marner now likely stays in Toronto with rising cap. Wyatt Johnson and Rantanen are off the table with new contracts in Dallas. Literally what went from intriguing options to put next to Bedard in FA is already off the table. If the Blackhawks keep wining or going into OT and picking up points they are going to miss out on Schaefer and Misa on top of it

The Leafs just tried to trade Marner. If they go out early in the playoffs I think he is as good as gone.

I feel like if Marner was going to re-sign with Toronto, he would have by now as the new cap numbers came out a month ago. It's one thing to sign a massive contract to facilitate a trade like Rantanen, but how often have players of that caliber re-signed with their team at this point in the season as opposed to hitting the open market?

Realistically, this isn’t the offseason to sign big free agent talent. It’s only because the cap is rising that potentially necessitates doing so. A top 5 pick in the ’26 draft would be nice.

Ideally, free agent signing after next season as the competitive window opens is better, and players find the team an attractive option. Plus, teams will have put the extra cap money into players already, giving the Hawks an advantage with more money to spend.

honestly at this point I wonder if his career is in jeopardy. 2 surgeries and still can't seem to recover is very concerning
agreed, same likely the case with Demko...not sure if he had surguries or not however he has not ever been the same since his injury.

With his agent he's probably as good as gone regardless. Attempting to swap him for Rantanen was probably the nail in the coffin. I think the last negotiation between them probably still has left a bitter taste in their mouths (Dubas is gone, but Shanahan isn't). Not to mention, he signed that massive deal and went on to score 6 goals in 37 playoff games (so far).
