If we can get him for the Toronto 1st + 33 I’d be fine with it. He’s a really effective NHLer and we have nearly zero of those

I hope they claim him but I don't think they will. They're in this weird spot where they stink but the roster is crowded. Oddly enough they've gone from a roster of AHL forwards last year to a roster full of 4th liners and underachieving 2nd liners this year. If they claim him, they would have to sit guys who they want to trade between now and the deadline. Or maybe they could send one of the kids back down?

i think i and a lot of people were banking on addition by subtraction too much. all that was added in the offseason was two middle six forwards, two bottom six forwards, a top six defenseman, an at best seventh d-man who gets played like a top six defenseman, and an injured backup goalie. that's not the stuff of dramatic improvement.

the question is then how much more could kd have added, and how much would that have benefitted the team in the long term? people point at the inflated salaries of bert, tt, and particularly brodie, but it's seldom acknowledged that these salaries are likely just what kd had to pay to get even middle tier free agents to sign. my gut tells me that if they were so inclined, the hawks would have had to shill out more than 6.25 million a year to lock up chandler stephenson and all of his 50 some odd point pace until he's old enough to run for president (were he an american citizen of course).

i think i had the right idea last year going into the offseason to be skeptical of the general push to add in free agency. i think i was tempted by greed on free agency day and that blinded me to everything i said above which should have been obvious to me at the time. if they add any players at all through free agency in the coming offseason, they have to be effective impact players. if the only deals to be a made are yet more inflated depth contracts, they're better off standing pat and trying to fill gaps from within.

If they start unloading the vets for whatever they can get they are going to need bodies. Why not take a chance on a young player and maybe get lucky with a longer term piece for free??

I guess we’ll see lots of Kurashev and Anderson later in the year - players that the organization doesn’t want anymore and/or aren’t NHL caliber players. Makes a ton of sense…

Its a shame Reichel seems to be putting in effort and doing everything they want (Including the demand he plays like a f***ing bottom 6 mucker) and his reward is not top 9 play and being healthy scratched randomly
He's been given a million opportunities to play up the lineup, and he has squandered it every single time.

Every. Single. Time.

Zero chance Bedard is getting 13 million with the two seasons he has had.
He looks like he is going to have a strong finish to the year imo and end up PPG. Might take a real high number like 11-12 to get him to sign for 8 years. I’m sure he believes in his potential.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned but Friedman reported a few days ago that LA offered PLD 26.5 at 8.5 for 7 more years at the time. straight up for Jones 30.25 with 6 more years at 9.5. straight up. I think I would have done it! if for nothing else he is 3 3/4 years younger. both have a ton of physical gifts but just leave you wanting more.

Look at that Ducks prepared to move a veteran to make room for kids as part of their rebuilding effort.

First Fowler out and now potentially Dumoulin

This is potentially bad for Hawks as teams that may have interest in Murphy could pivot to Dumoulin who while a lefty can play both sides I believe

Ducks playing kids on blueline wanting more playing while Davidson prefers to block kids on blueline with worthless vets
