2024-25 Roster…too soon?

With almost a full compliment of dmen, the exception being Crevier, Del Mastro has yet to move up and play anything close to 2nd pairing minues. He's had 15 seconds of PK time in 6 games. It's a small sample size but I need to see more against tougher competion in more difficult circumstances.

That’s on coaching

What happened to all of EDMs physicality? He used to wreck kids.
Can’t be running around trying to kill people. You’ll just put yourself out of position and look like garbage.

I get the sell high thing, but rather than another 2nd pick, I say Hawks should resign 28 year old Donato. The guy is relentless, plays up and down line-up, great attitude, and can score 15+ goals on average. Terms?

Its time to package Donato and Murphy 50% for a 1st. Sell Donato at a high and send murphy out to open up space for these young defenseman.

Kaiser Del Mastro Allan and Crevier can all be NHLers. I would guess they are gunna get Korchinski in next year? Jones and Vlasic are there to stay. Brodie is here. Martinez is a guy you can bring back for nothing if you want another vet.

For the love of god no!

Dont overpay and over commit to a guy having a career year as pending FA at 28 yrs old

Donato has a lot of people fooled here. His next contract is going to be scary, whoever takes the bait.

What's his next contract even going to look like? I would imagine 5 years is the most any sane GM would give him, well, that's the max I'd consider at least. That would have him under control from his age 29-34 years. I think he is capable of keeping up comparable play for at least 3 years of that deal, if not more.

But I honestly don't have even a guess to what his next cap hit number looks like. Hard for me to say if I'd want to see him back after this season without having a better idea of what kind of cap hit we're looking at.

5 years??? No way. I wouldnt give him 3.

If the draft talent falls off so quickly, could hawks get a late 1st for Donato alone? I know some teams like Edmonton already sold theirs but maybe from someone that has theirs.

I mean I'd still do it, but a pick in the 50-60 range for Donato in what everyone is saying is a bad draft isn't all that enticing or exciting.

3 is probably what I would prefer as well, but depth guys have been getting more years than usual the last couple off seasons.
Will depend what he’s after. Long and low has been the play in a flat cap. In a big spike, could see more short and high.

Trade him now at his peak and they can bring him back if they want for next year. The Hawks can afford to give him more than other teams on a 2 yr type of deal like Foligno, Dickinson, AA.

I like Donato’s game and I think he’s a good vet to have the kids around. There’s no reason you can’t trade him and sign him in the summer. And if he doesn’t sign there will be lots of similar vets that you can overpay short term.

Donato is a really weird player. He's kind of fine everywhere in the lineup but no matter where he is you wish you had someone a little better.
