really? I find it almost the opposite, where the board goes nuts over guys who are clearly longshots to make the NHL - Dufour and Maggio most recently. The list (Petrov, Kabanov, Ho-Sang, O'Marra) goes on and on - everyone refusing to acknowledge the faults and setting sky high expectations.

Another nice late round pick. The guy who created the screen, Vaclav Nestrasil, is rated around where the Isles pick at 42. He’s a 6’5” power forward right wing. Finished 4th in scoring right ahead of Villeaux.

Nestrasil has ramped it up in the playoffs. In 12 playoff games he’s had 7 goals and 6 assists for 13 points.

Yup been paying attention to him too since he’s always on Muskegon’s score sheet. You gotta think our scouts have seen a lot of Muskegon’s team so wouldn’t be surprised if we pick him or someone from that team

Ryabkin’s also been great since coming over but a lot of reported character issues

The other comment will get more likes because people WANT to believe that’s true, but this is of course what’s ACTUALLY true.

When you’re starved for talent at both the NHL and prospect level, for years on end like this fanbase, it’s natural to overrate any shred of talent that comes in.

Add to that the regular fan inclination to overrate their own players (not specific to this fanbase) and you have a recipe for the phenomenon you’re describing.

Thrilling OT victory.

Well-visited arena.

A kid named Jack Christ, who only went 9-8-17 in 48 regular season games, gets the trick incl. the OT winner.

I only had the game on in the background but unfortunately, when I did see Veilleux do anything specific it was in the form of a poor turnover in his own zone (weak outlet pass direct to the opponent) and the an untimely penalty late in the game.

Did see him have a decent zone entry in OT.

Great for him to have a championship experience before heading to Cornell.

He finished 6th in team scoring and then tied for 8th (with 3 others) with 8 points in 14 playoff games.

Now we can just hope Nurmi gets to experience a Mem Cup victory.
