Prospect Info: 2024-25 Prospect and Wranglers Thread

After starting the season quite slow production wise, Hunter Brzustewicz now has 7 points in his last 10 games. He had 2 points in the prior 17.
Nice to also see him round to form with the some of the more veteran D guys on the Wranglers missing time. I won't be overly surprised if he leads the Wranglers in points from the backend by the end of the season.

Another multi point effort from Kerins lifts the Wranglers to a second win in their b2b set with Abbotsford. He had 2 goals and an assist.
Back in a tie for the AHL lead with 35pts on the season.

Great assist by Brzustewicz on his first goal too, split D and took the entire Abbotsford team behind the net with him essentially.

According to the game sheet they only dressed 17, with Aspirot at Spengler, and Grush and Bishop not playing. Wonder if they just had travel issues?

Both Grushnikov and Bishop played in the NYE game, so I would think they were just late scratches' from being banged up or sick.

Aspirot was re-added to the roster on the 31st, so it is possible he had travel delays, but they had an extra D on hand in Charles Martin, so he dressed. They recalled Goure from Rapid City on NYE, and he didn't play yesterday, so he may have had travel issues.

Just glancing at the stats, Solovyov's numbers are quite striking. It looks like he's leading the league in even-strength points for defencemen. (I was searching for evidence to be optimistic about a couple Canucks prospects when this caught my attention.)

He really looks like he's hitting. How is he viewed in the organization?

Solvoyov reminds me a bit of a poor man's Volchenkov. Could have been a fan favourite if given the chance.

Don't think Conroy and co. think much of him though unfortunately. He's good enough to play on the bottom pairing this year but instead Conroy signed a pile of meh in Bean, Barrie, & Hanley to block any defensemen on the farm from even getting a sniff of the the NHL this season. Which means he's already thinking of the future with Grushnikov, Brzustewicz, Parekh, Morin, etc.

Solovyov is one-way next season which should give him the inside track to make the team as a #6 or #7 but then again, the Flames being the Flames, pretty decent chance they waive him again while re-signing Hanley. Some other team should really claim him

Just a note, Bean is less than 2 years older than Solvoyov; and sort of feels untapped in a way too.
Have to think there will be a time when Calgary just bites the bullet, brings him up, gives him the Hanley treatment to see if he can sink or swim. Love me some Joel Hanley, but he shouldn't be a mainstay playing with your best defender every night.

Would be wild to me if the org valued Grush more than Solvoyov. I get that Grush is a defensive defenseman but he has literally 0 production at any level of hockey he’s played

Usually the guys that end up being shut down D in the big league still produce at a decent clip in juniors/minors. Never understood Calgary targeting him in the Tanev trade

Admittedly I’ve only caught a couple wranglers games this year and he seems decent but I really don’t see any NHL future there

Since we're talking Solo...

Not that I've watched him closely in enough Wranglers games last year + this year to be an expert, but I think comparing how he entered training camp this year to how he'll enter next year (assuming the pace keeps up) is wildly different. Last year he showed he could be very good in the AHL this year his stats indicate that he's developed into a top tier player in the league and could be bringing something at the NHL level rather than treading water better than Hanley/Barrie.

I think the Flames are having a better plan for young pieces and we're seeing that with Coronato, Zary, Pospisil, Pelletier, Bahl, Wolf where we aren't seeing them glued to the bench/pressbox if they could be developing in the AHL and we aren't seeing them kept out of the NHL when they should be in it for more than a couple weeks

Sergeev was back in action on the weekend. He hadn't played since Nov. 16, presumably an injury but I couldn't find any information online.

He stopped 77 of 80 shots in the 2 games vs Notre Dame.

Wranglers have now lost 3 in a row. Getting shit stomped 5-2 and 7-2 in a 2 game set in Loveland, CO vs the Eagles.

Friday night in the 5-2 loss, Cooley stopped 12 of 16 shots before being replaced for the 3rd period. Both Wranglers goals were SH.

Saturday night in the 7-2 loss, Ignatjew stopped 33/39 shots and played the full game. Cooley was scratched so he may be injured.
