Interesting that they didn't give Kerins any preseason games for the last two years but they move him back to his natural position and he takes off

Good guys up 3-0 after 20
Kerins, Bishop & Duehr with the goals. Pelts has a pair of assists.

As it currently stands, Pelletier and Kerins are the AHL lead in points with 7. Kerins with 6+1 and Pelts with 7 assists.

Why don't the flames try Rory Kerins? I don't understand, he didn't even play any exhibition games?

Flames want a young centre, guy seems to be producing early here. No harm in 5-10 games. He had 118pts in the O, that's no slouch.

He didn't even start to look like a decent AHLer until midway through last season. He's off to a hot start, let him keep growing and building confidence.

No knee-jerk reactions, that includes call-ups.

Anyone know why Solo didn't play past couple games?

Also, I'll confess I've been too hard on Kerins....he's taking full advantage of his opportunity, which is all you could ask. But I still think it's pretty silly to think we can just call him up now when he's just starting to gain confidence. If he can keep it up for a couple months, maybe.

Pelts should be the 1st call up. He has shown he is at worst a top AHL player.

To add context this, Kerins failed to make the Wranglers out of camp last year and got into his first game Nov 3rd and in his first 22 games he scored 20 points. When compared to other AHL rookies this pace would put him behind Stankoven, Coronato, and just a hair behind Clarke for 3rd.

He then would go a bit cold and the rest of his season seemed to involve drawing into the top line after good games and benching after poor outings including alternating out of the lineup through half of March.

I haven't watched enough of Kerins to be 100%, but it seems he isn't seen as a line driver and isn't doing enough away from the puck to give coaches a ton of faith in him, but he really understands how to put up points no matter where he plays which makes him an intriguing prospect.

Some scouts have said similar things about Gridin, but Matvei of course is much younger and has more size which gives him more to work with in overcoming these shortcomings (and I'm honestly not sure they are even fair descriptions of Gridin). Kerins' needs this entire year in the AHL to show he does more than put up good points when he's given a lot of 5 on 5 time, that he can play the systems, give his team puck support, and he needs to put up more consistent points to move on to the next level.
