Nah, Schaefer and Dickinson is where it's at. Top line wingers are always available by trade.
Are you sure that Schaefer is so much better than Dickinson?
I just don`t understand why ppl say that with Schaefer we would almost end rebuild or smth.
We drafted Dickinson with that PIT`s pick, he is promising D too, they are both LD. Maybe Schaefer is better (who knows?) but difference isn`t huge.
Let's just be happy about Dickinson's progress and not regret that we couldn't get Schaefer. We still got the great D prospect.

Personally, I am. Dickinson has incredible tools but questions about his hockey IQ. Schaefer has no such questions IMO.

Like I said, I want both. I want Schaefer eating 25 minutes on one pairing against opposing stars and Dickinson cleaning up 25 minutes on another pairing against second tier comp. With special teams and the occasional off-sides shift, it shouldn't be hard to find 18 minutes for Mukhamadullin somewhere in there too. That's how I want this team built. Wingers can always be acquired in trade, free agency, and outside the top-5 of the draft, and that's assuming we don't end up with Gavin McKenna or Ethan Belchetz next year.

Also to address your "rebuild is over with Schaefer" comment, I would say that would be true and clarify that I interpret that statement as "tanking and acquiring core pieces is complete" rather than it meaning that we're competitive. If you have a core like Celebrini/Smith/Eklund/Schaefer/Dickinson/Askarov, you're still going to have a couple of non-playoff years where you have picks in the 8-14 range and can grab some wingers to finish out the roster.

I just now realized what you mean :) You are for Dickinson + Schaefer, right?
Probably we are talking about different things. I said that Dickinson + Martone isn`t worse than Schaefer + Martone, because I mean Dickinson is not so much worse than Schaefer that we regret that we got the pick last year and not now. You can put Schaefer/Misa/McQueen instead of Martone. My message is that we still got very promising D, with PIT`s 24 or 25 draft pick.

Yep, that's exactly what I meant.

And I agree with your point that it's likely that Pittsburgh's pick this year won't yield a prospect that is actually better than Dickinson anyway. Unless they are picking top-4, I'm perfectly happy with Sam instead.

Vegass
Vegas showed last night how suspect their depth is once they lose a player (stone). Considering how often Hertl/Stone/Karlsson/Petro/Eichel miss time they're gonna need a lot of luck to remain at the top of the division.

I would also argue that if we had Pit unprotected pick it might have been used in the Askarov deal instead of the Vegas pick. Now Grier would have likely still protected it in the same way as he did with the Vegas pick.

Also Dickinson is now 1 year ahead of whatever prospect acquired with the Pittsburgh pick could be this year. I terms of timelines lining up that's a good thing.

Wow. It's shocking that he would openly say this...
He's right. Sweden is loaded with top flight two-way defensemen: Ekholm, Hedman, Forsling, Lindholm, Brodin, Andersson. Even among offensemen Dahlin is probably the better choice.

Labanc woth two more assists in just the first period. How does he keep getting away with it?!

Another assist tonite.

What I am going to say is going to shock me and many here:

Labanc has worked his ASS off, he has taken hits to make plays, dug pucks out of the corner and not thrown blind passes in the slot. He is on a line with childhood friend Zach Aston-Reece and Sean Kuraly and they are always in the other teams end pinning them deep. It's a different person
