2024/25 Oilers Prospect Thread

Anyone have any insight as to the delay in signing Maata and/or Munzenberger? Their season has been over for a while. Finishing classes? Oilers not going to sign them? At the very least you would think Bako would have signed them. I think both deserve a contract. Maata a leader and almost a point a game on a very low offensive team and Munzenbeger is well worth a look/see.
Well, when you look at the Condors, there is no prospect other than Savoie who is deemed as "Probable NHL" so I am sure the Oilers will want to take a close look at prospects and start taking the future more seriously. They must have more patience and professionalism.

It's not like we are flush with actual prospects down there. Hopefully we get both signed.

Hopefully a friendly call with Podz can sway him to come over. Podz Drai Bery could be a heavy line that not many teams could handle.

It’s really damming to see the depletion of the Oilers prospect pool in the last year. Yes some of these were on track to graduate but it’s a long list.

Holloway
Broberg
Lavioe
Bourgault
Chaisson
Tulio
Jarventie
Lachance
Wanner
Berglund

And add in Schaefer, Kesselring, 2023 1st, 2025 1st, 2026 1st as well out side if that time frame.
They did pick up Savoie, but he’ll graduate for sure by next season. And Fischer but they have yet to sign him and he could play two more NCAA seasons.

They really need to hit on O’Rielly, Akey, and Berezkin other wise there’s not too much hope for entry level contracts to help in the cup window.

Yes contenders trade picks, but this is very aggressively selling the future for Vets that are starting to show their age. Especially in the bottom six.

Yes the Knights only have a few drafted players on their roster at the best of times, but the Oilers don’t have Gary helping them out constantly. The Lehner contract termination was complete BS to allow them to accrue cap…

O'Reilly with the shorty and primary assist.

2G 2A so far tonight.

Day with a 38 shot shutout vs Kitchener. The Rangers peppered him big time in the first two periods and he made some big saves. He has had a very good series despite giving up 6 in Game 2. The Rangers are the much better team and this series has been closer than expected.

Guess Day doesn't want to go to Bako just yet. :sarcasm:
Probably a 30-some point difference in the regular season standings between Kitchener and Flint, but them Firebirds find some Daylight.

Connor Clattenburg with this assist in the game.

Dalyn Wakely collected another 2 assists in Game 3, making that 2 assists ever game this series. Beau Akey was held off the scoresheet tonight, but had an assist yesterday.

I watched a fair bit last night but listened to some of game 1 on the radio. The Ranger's PBP guy is a vet whose been doing their games for years. His comment: And of course Clattenburg doing what Clattenburg does...was actually a complement to his play. He has been a royal PITA for the Rangers the whole series.

This kid may just will himself into becoming a player at the pro level. One thing you know...he'll leave an impression.

So, is O'Rielly ready for NHL bottom 6 duties next season?
What are his limitations?
I think he could be. Imo he doesn't have any big limitations, but he has some areas he'll want to improve on if he wants to make the team next year. Size and strength are the two that really stand out, but this is common for most players this age. If he could add a bit to his skating it would help him a lot, as well as improving some areas on his offensive game. He already thinks the game well enough on both side of the puck. I guess it comes down to philosophy on whether a player can develop their offensive game in a bottom 6 NHL role at a young age, or if you think they should be playing top6/PP in a lesser league.

I personally think he could play bottom 6 next year if he has a good summer, and wouldn't be opposed to it. But I could also see him benefiting from some more OHL time as he's going to be competing with some of the new signings and Matt Savoie/Noah Philp.

He probably could, but I feel like next season in London could be huge for his development.

Cowan, Barkey, Halttunen, Julien and Dickinson(probably) are graduating and he'll have a chance to be the go-to guy. That could be big for his eventual offensive upside.

That would be a reach.

Beryozkin makes more sense if you ignore our ability to sign Russian prospects or give kids a chance to succeed in the NHL.
I'd love to see him come over he's such an intriguing prospect.

I know the Oilers prospect pool isn't amazing, but some of the new additions and the type of players they've added is exciting that they might be able to inject some youthful talent onto the team.

Savoie is obviously the most exciting as a potential McDavid or Draisaitl running mate for years to come. But the 2nd layer or tier of forward prospects is kind of an interesting group. When you look at O'Reilly, Beryozkin, Philp, Tomasek, and Samanski there's a common theme. Guys with some size, who are young or young enough, not elite skaters, but enough skill in their game that they might break through as top 9 players. If you could get all 5 of those guys in camp next year I think there's a decent to good chance that you find a roster player out of them, and might have another 1 or 2 knocking on the door mid season from the AHL. I already fully expect Savoie to make the team next year out of camp in a top 6 role.

Nicholl is another interesting prospect to follow, but he's a couple years away still. I'm not really all that worried about this team's future if McDavid and Bouchard re-sign (especially if they retain Walman). Guys like Nuge/Hyman might slowly fall off over that time, but I think there's hope for internal replacements even after botching the Holloway situation, and a lot of those replacements coincide well with expiring contracts to when they'd need to be paid.

If he's not ready next year should be a massive year for O'Reilly and Nicholl.
I swear its never a bad idea to draft London Knights players. That system just puts out so many NHLers.
