Blue Jays Discussion: 2024-25 Off-season: The free agent watch begins (and sometimes old baseball radio broadcasts)

Sure, 25... not sure where I got 17. It's approximately the same level of meaninglessness since it amounts to a little less than a week of baseball.

I suspect if you look at players with a significant number of playoff appearances in their career, you'll find that their career regular season numbers are far more predictive of how they perform going forward in the postseason than the first 5-10 games of their postseason career.

I don't understand how you're not projecting forward when you're factoring it into the size of contract he should get. The contract you give a player should be based entirely on how you project them to perform for you going forward.

It should be. But in reality teams use this in negotiations for contracts and vice versa. Agents will say my guy is a playoff performer no matter the sample size.

And I bet if Vladdy had a strong record in the playoffs his agent and poster here will say he is a proven playoff performer, hence why he is worth his ask.

This is my point, there are a lot of warts around Vladdy’s game on and off the field that hesitate to give him hundreds of millions of dollars and playoff performances is one of them. And if he had strong playoff performances, you bet it would be working the other way in his favor.

Everybody riding the Red Sox makes me sick. They are nothing special.
I have Yankees then baltimore. Then any of of jays, rays and redsox seed after that. I agree boston nothing special. Crochet and bregman are only big adds. Then lost o'neill. Jays had the better offseason imo. But a lot of ifs still. Can guerrero do what he did last year? Can bo stay healthy and get back to what he was?. Can santander hit 40 again? Can scherzer stay healthy? Is francis for real? Is garcia and hoffman healthy? Can kirk handle a full season?

There aren't a lot of times Vlad has had pressure at bats but these limited showings he's mustered these kinds of result. Those two games are the equivalent of the first round of the playoffs as an example. If Vlad went 0-6 with two walks in a best of 3 round would you be happy with it?
No but i'd also be bothered by the two walks. That means the guys in front of him did not get on base and the guys behind him did not frighten the other team.

Or he just took two walks because he does have a good eye. His down years he was chasing all the time. This year he corrected that and maybe that's why he got the free passes. But he certainly did not have anything intimidating around him in the lineup
