Well the going theory is Boras was playing teams against each other knowing at least one was going to the Jays

If they can't get Bregman, i'm not really sure what other avenues they have to upgrade the lineup.
Although I'll be pumped if we get Bregman, is he really the guy we need? That contract (rumored at 6 years) is going to be rough at the end. Bregman is already starting to decline. Likely why Houston hasn't upped their offer.

I think he wants to be an Astro. Situation similar to Alonso. May take less to stay where he's comfortable.

I think it's more likely we pivot to the trade market. Could be better for us long term too.

He was never coming here and Boras once again used the Jays as a way to maximize his clients AAV. Eventually even the dumbest GM should catch on that he is being played.

Bregman is not coming here either. He's going tot he Cubs. So lets stop playing games, come out and say that you are not perusing Bregman.

Lets move on, this 85 win team will be super exciting to not watch, I'm sure there is something on Prime, Netflix, Paramount, Disney+, Apple+, Hulu, MGM, StackTV, YouTube, so on and so on that would be more entertaining...

This putz is going to lose Vlad and Bo for nothing, pretending this team has a chance at the playoffs, just to protect his job for one more season. About as self-serving as a GM can get.

It’s a flawed strategy to need so many FA to field a contending team. Even if they filled the holes you don’t know how they’re going to mesh.

Boras wasn’t successful. Just look at the deal he signed.

It was obvious Alonso only wanted to be a Met so can't force someone to come. I'm also warry of Bregman long term so rather bring in a Moncada type or simply see if the kids can step up. I would go after Robert on the sox though, trade some of the pitching prospects that can't stay healthy if Sox want to bet on upside.

The Mets offered him three years and he turned it down in favour of a shorter deal with an opt out after one year. That doesn't exactly scream "only wants to be a Met".

Didn't he get $30 mil per?
He got one year for $30 million... not exactly the $150+ million he went into the offseason looking for.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad deal for Alonso, but taking a short term deal with an opt out is clearly a backup plan when a Boras client can't get what he's looking for.
