Because Gómez is still driving this home - from 15 minutes ago;

Remember his report had the Jays signing Santander. Along with Scherzer later. Both were disputed for days which end up being true.

He strongly believes the Jays gets Vladdy re-signed and Alonso signing to come after with Bregman likely going to another team: Houston, Detroit or Bosto (my guesses).

Trying to get both Bregman and Alonso signed (to different teams) at the same time makes sense for Boras regarding the wait.

The last few days have had me believing this is true. There's been literally nothing said about Alonso from anyone with any sources in a few days. Meanwhile we still hear a thing or 2 about Bregman.

If 1 of them were to sign with a team who was only in on 1 of them it wouldn't hurt the others leverage because because that team wasn't a suitor for the other. It only makes sense if it's the Jays that said player come to an agreement with. Or if neither player had agreed to anything, but I dont think we'd be radio silence on Alonso for so long if that were the case. Plus the rumour that Alonso and Scherzer might come as a package. I think Alonso and the Jays had an agreement on that day that the Scherzer news leaked. Jays might also have the biggest offer out there for Bregman, but Boras doesn't want the Alonso news leaked as the other suitors probably won't buy the Jays interest in Bregman if Alonso is done because are they really going to sign Santander, Alonso, Bregman, Scherzer, Hoffman and trade for Gimenez all in the same offseason?

*All of this is my own feelings*

I refuse to believe.

Honestly, there are plenty of little reasons to believe they might still have more up their sleeves, but I really think they're done with the impact moves and we'll get a trade for a minor improvement (or nothing else) to the pen or offense.

I don't expect either Alonso or Bregman. Even one would be fantastic but, for all the talk about Rogers, I still don't trust ownership to keep investing to push them over the top. I think they've got the team back into Wild Card contention and that's good enough for them.

This makes great sense. Alonso to the Jays is done or very close. And if that’s announced, Bregman loses his top offer (rumoured to be from the Jays). As a result, nothing moves on that market and Boras is probably saying to Bregman, you better accept a deal soon because you are about to lose the Jays, the Astros aren’t blinking and the Red Sox look like they are moving on.

All of Bregman’s suitors have strong connections to him;
-Houston
-Detroit: AJ Hinch (former Astros Manager)
-Boston: Alex Cora (former Astros Bench coach)
-Jays: James Click (former GM) and George Springer

For what's it's worth I don't think I even want Bregman. Of course I'll be excited if they signed both because the lineup is going to be great this year. But I think that contract is a landmine at the back half of it. Alonso is the guy I want. I'll be cautiously enthusiastic if they sign Bregman. With Alonso because wow what a lineup, we may have a chance. Without Alonso because we needed another guy. Fit might be better than DHing Alonso or Vladdy at 3rd but I hope it works.

I agree. I only want Bregman because of the name, shock value, video game mode and he is a big upgrade. But that contract will be bad.

If money is no object, I would give him $150M over 5 years with an opt out after every year. You tempt him and hope he takes the opt out meaning you get a great year out of him and out of the contract.

Obviously you want to keep your depth but if you land Bregman and Alonso, you can also have the luxury of consolidating 2 or more of;
-Clement
-Schneider
-Barger
-Orelvis
-Kasevich
-Roden

For a controlled pen arm or starter.

I just don’t understand why the Blue Jays can’t just get both Alonso and Bregman.

Also between, this;

And this;

You think the Astros and Red Sox believe they are out. And it’s down to Detroit and another team (maybe the Jays).

Could be a Gausman and Ray situation from a few years ago, Jays made offers to both and said who ever accepts first, they will sign. Being the agent for both, Boras thinks he has a deal for one with the Jays, it’s about finding one for the remaining.

I like this narrative, so I choose to believe it.

Considering the rumours are for 3 year deals I don't. I absolutely wince at Bregman though
I’m with you. It’s all about the term.
Alonso for three…..sign it up.
Bregman….for 6 is icky.
But I’ve also been thinking if there’s a 6 year deal with heavy deferrals, there’s a threshold aav where I’d end up fine with it. Somewhere around 18-20 per on aav? I’d be better there.

Saw today the cubs have a 4 yr 6 figure offer out to him.

They have some strong ties to him too with Kyle Tucker, and Pressley. Though all those players have 1 year left.

He is from New Mexico and went to school in LA, wonder if there is a strong preference to stay in that area and if that is the case, Houston is his best option.

I meant to add I would temper your confidence that Alonso is coming here. History king of tells us when we are this closely linked to a player in this kind of scenario we tend to be the pressure for the other team and nothing more
