Honestly what shi and bns says doesnt faze me at all. They are always last when news breaks. Even for santander we pretty much knew the whole contract before they did
Shi and BNS both get info from inside the organization. But that also means they only hear and repeat what the org wants them to know.
On the flip side Boras loves to use us as leverage. If he is trying to get the Mets to up their offer he would absolutely let it leak out that they are “talking” to us.

Definitely and thats exactly what is happening here

The Jays are notorious for keeping things quiet. Shi and BNS aren't behind the scoop. They're just not allowed to report the scoop because their employer is the team. They get paid to say the most negative things possible. This offseason is clear proof of that.

It definitely looks like these reports are coming from Boras. My guess is the Jays are particularly sensitive to being portrayed as runners up again, so they're trying to get ahead of that narrative by telling Shi/BNS that the reports aren't true.

Shi and BNS only ever say anything when their bosses want them to. They never break anything. They are literally the mouth piece of management/Rogers. When have they ever come out and broke news of anything? They’re always behind because they wait for their talking points from upper management. “Jays insiders” bullshit

When they stuff like “industry sources say” it just means “our bosses”

Feel like we’re being used again to drive up the Mets offer. Damn you Boras
The problem with that theory is insiders have been reporting for weeks that the Mets balked at what Alonso thought he was worth and most indications are Alonso hasn't backed down. If David Stearns wanted him to stick around, him and Uncle Steve would have made it happen already given how well liked he is too.

It should be noted Tim Healy is a Mets beat writer too so it's not like he's nobody.

Edit: Would still be a bit weird if the Mets lose out on the guy because they offered 3/75 and the Jays went 3/80. You throw 3 quarters of a billion dollars at Juan Soto to compete and then don't pay the only realistic option you have at 1B?

This is my thought process as well. Why sign Soto and let Alonso walk. Doesn’t make sense.

Maybe they just really like Baty at 3rd and are transitioning Vientos to 1B full time. Or they swoop in on Bregman as option B in free agency.
