Jays still need a bat and a depth starter but at least they got the big hitter. Nothing against Belt and 39 years old Turner but imo Santander is a big improvement over them. He fits the need of the team better. Obviously need Bo to be back to being Bo for it to work.
Yeah Alonso and Scherzer are basically a combo signing, we need a bat ok here’s Alonso, need a starter here’s Scherzer. It’s been mentioned more than a few times but Sherzer is basically done we just wait for the Alonso domino.

I agree with others, I have been pretty critical of the front office.. but if you get Mad Max and Alonso for those price tags, jump on it. Especially if they can extend Vlad and hopefully Bo for any duration, it at least gives them an outside chance to compete if things go right... and at the minimum will keep people in the seats at games.

Alonso would be a good signing, hope we get it done (although we better still extend Vladdy)

Not sure how much Scherzer has left in the tank but either way it would be cool seeing him in a Jays jersey

Winning a cup or a WS is hard. I'll never "require" a management team to win it all to consider it a success. Just give me a team that i can at least hope. Last year was not that. Last year was wishful thinking. If they sign Alonso and Scherzer at least there will be hope. It might not work but it could. Offense on paper will be good. Yes there will be a question mark with Scherzer's age and Bo's / Manoah's / Hoffman's health but this could work. As it is without adding anything though i feel there will be too many holes to hope for anything.

I would be ecstatic for Scherzer to play for the Blue Jays. He's a god damned psychopath masquerading as a baseball player.

Alonso would be a lot of fun. I'm perfectly fine with a "f*** It, We Ball" attitude towards next season. Maybe it all goes terrible and we are left with an old, bad team, after Vladdy & Bo walk out the door. Maybe the re-sign and it's a prosperous age. Maybe it's somewhere in-between. Last season was so damn miserable that I stopped even putting the games on in the background.

Yeah I'm not sad he's off the board
He really wasn’t an ideal match for us at all. If we hadn’t signed Santander I would have been fine with a short term deal to play LF but with him I don’t see a spot.
And honestly Profar has as many bad years as good one in his career and I don’t see that being something that improves with age.

While I'd love to see the Jays sign Alonso, I wouldn't be surprised to see him remain a Met -- particularly if the Mets have the right to match any offer that Alonso gets.

Its best to prepare for heartbreak. You dont hear as many leaks as you heard only for a Met favorite to accept a marginally better offer to leave New York who just added Soto. Only way the Jays get him is if he gets significantly more in Toronto.

Even as a 5th starter why not right! For sure he’s close to empty but I would be shocked if anyone is expecting him to be Cy Young material. If he can give you 3.50 ERA and throw 5-6 innings. You take it and run
