Basically, the trade is likely Straw plus cash plus the IFA amount for the same cash. Toronto relieves them of the salary for pool space.

Good to see if it leads to Sasaki and better to be positive.

Happy to be wrong but it seems to me all the Dodgers IFA commitments were poached. No one went after Jays or Padres guys. So he is a Dodger.

My guess with the report SD is out earlier this morning. Jays don’t know anything, so they acquired extra money in hopes it sways Sasaki. They worked all morning and got this deal done.

Either they get Sasaki.

Or they pay their prospects extra for waiting or go after other guys.

Plus you have Straw as a Varsho replacement to start the season as he will be on the IL.

If Toronto covers LAD's bid and gets the rest of their eligible space, they can likely get 1 or 2 of their top guys and Sasaki.

If (big if) we land Sasaki, it puts into motion more moves via being able to dump a Bassit type of contract and reinvesting the money on a bat like Alonso or Bregman. Probably the best case scenario for the Jays after missing out on Soto.

Management has no interest in this, from what I've seen.

If they sign Sasaki, the plan is that Rodriguez becomes long man, they figure out the lefty situation and go from there.

I also feel like we wouldn't trade for the space unless they already knew. It doesn't fit our front offices MO to make proactive moves lol

The only thing that KIND OF makes me hesitate to buy too much into the Dodgers' commitments leaving is that they both left for significantly bigger bonuses than what they had agreed to with the Dodgers. It could just be that they planned on waiting to see what the Dodgers were going to do and got offers they couldn't turn down, while the Jays guys aren't getting poached to that extent.
