Responding specifically to the bolded, this has been my guess as to why the Sportsnet beat guys have been talking like this, since before the Jays even spent their first dollar of the offseason.I see them a little differently. BNS and Shi seem to poor cold water on all the rumors. They’re the one’s telling us there’s no budget left, while the US scoop breakers insist we’re throwing money around at anyone that’ll take it. If the team is controlling the narrative with them it’s not to appease the fan base, it’s to temper expectations.
I think the truth of what’s happening is probably somewhere in between. The Jays have money to spend, but are sticking to their valuations and waiting for the market to come to them. Honestly that’s probably the best approach, especially long term. That said, it sucks for the fan base that desperately wants a big move (myself included).
Ultimately the MLB offseason is long and slow to develop, and we probably shouldn’t judge until it gets close to Spring Training. For me personally that’s going to be difficult, as the frustration grows, particularly when pieces that might’ve helped dropping off the board. Still lots of times and lots of players that can help.
And yet they supposedly offer over $600M for Soto. Thats what I can't get.Responding specifically to the bolded, this has been my guess as to why the Sportsnet beat guys have been talking like this, since before the Jays even spent their first dollar of the offseason.
The team IMO is trying to trick the casuals into being impressed with whatever offseason they end up having by putting a "we don't have that much to spend" narrative out there, so that when they inevitably spend more than that, they think that's going to trick casuals into being more impressed with the offseason because "wow the team spent way more than I thought!."
There is no hard evidence behind this obviously, but it's pretty apparent by reading between the lines, and not being willfully ignorant about the complex relationship (coverage wise) between the Jays and Sportsnet under 1 owner.
Oh my goodness.Dave Winfield has posted on instagram that Rickey Henderson has passed away.
Coming to say this. Sad news if true. Rest in peace RickeyDave Winfield has posted on instagram that Rickey Henderson has passed away.
I know he may not want to have come to Canada and NY probably appealed to him more. But did the Jays even have atleast some interest?
Yeah, I had no interest in Bellinger unless he came at a steep discount (he didn't for the Yankees) and Goldschmidt would have been something like Plan D in terms of improving the offense.Hopefully not. Goldschmidt is completely cooked.
How are the Yankees seemingly getting everyone?! They already made the WS, then lost one pretty good guy and added about 10 replacements.
Goldschmidt could be a really nice buy-low for the Yankees but it obviously carries some risk. One of the best hitters of the last decade... If there's anything left in the tank, the Yankees could have a nice bat here.
Now they will get gold to try and lure arenado to go to ny. But will have to offer more then stroman
Yeah as it stands now goldy 1st, bellinger center amd judge right field.I'd love to see the Yankees get Arenado. Surround Judge with mediocre and/or declining aging players.
Was the man standing on 2nd when Joe walked em off.RIP Rickey Henderson. Was an impactful Jay.
If Giminez is going to be their top off-season acquisition, then they certainly will be worse than last year.I didn’t think it was possible but the Jays might end up having a worse offseason than last year.
How did he die?RIP Rickey Henderson. Was an impactful Jay.
