Damn some of you guys really can’t handle the MLB offseason.
What has happened so far that we reasonably could have and should have been in on?
Soto was never going to sign here.
Because we have drafted and developed terribly we didn’t have the prospect capital to match the Redsox offer for Crochet. Bellinger’s contract is radioactive waste we should have wanted nothing to do with.
Fried to the Yankees was a good signing but other than that no a lot has gone on. Baseball free agency isn’t like hockey where everything good happens the first 2 days. It takes months to play out.

There are tons of reasons to criticize this front office. I’m deeply in the fire Shatkins group. But it’s too early to freak out about this off season.

But out of the top 5 hitters and top 5 starting pitchers that are FAs how many have signed?
1 hitter in Soto and 2 pitchers in Fried and Kikuchi?
Most guys are still out there.

I wish we had info on what salary threshold they will spend to.

2025 CBT thresholds:

- First threshold: Approximately $241 million
- Second threshold: Approximately $261 million
- Third threshold: Approximately $281 million

FanGraphs has our estimated payroll at $206 million.

If these numbers are accurate and they spend to the first threshold, they could have somewhere around $30 million to spend. If they go to the next threshold, which would have been needed for Soto, it could be as high as $50+ million.

They need to field a team, but they probably should be shedding salary - Bassitt, Springer for sure, Gausman and Berrios could get a decent return.
