But this is Atkins' modus operandi. He thinks he's the smartest guy in the room and is arrogant af. He thinks he can fix Gimenez's offence, just like he fixed Turner's, Varsho's, Kiermaier's and Vogelbach's. His use of analytics will lead this team to playoff success in his mind. He's thankful for just being in the mix for Ohtani and Soto, players he had no chance of acquiring. Hubris at it's disgusting worst. Rogers deserves this clown for not getting rid of him.
I would love Varsho's offence from before he got here. They were hoping he'd be even better offensively here. Not that they could improve on him.

How about the off seasons before that?
What about them? I stopped supporting these guys in 2020 and called them a joke then and still call them a joke now, because they are. Not sure what you're expecting from my response, I was quoting someone regarding last season and questioning how anyone can still support them from last years off season to begin with. Let's go the year before then trading away Teoscar and trading for Varsho, which I thought was stupid. It was bad enough they went with a defense first mentality 2 seasons ago, then double down on it again last season, and now tripling down on it this year, is just ridiculous.

Just watched a Hazel interview with John Schneider (just posted). He certainly makes it sound like they still want to add a big “thumper” to bat behind Vlad and mentioned adding to pitching, both starting and relief as well.

Hopefully this means BNS and Dividi are misinformed on the available budget remaining.

Also, Ruben Amaro just proposed a Jays Cubs trade for Bellinger. Pretty gross. He had Clement, Nimala, and Bloss going to the Cubs for Bellinger. No wonder this guy failed as a GM, that deal is awful for the Jays.

And he’s apparently got a swing and miss change up, which I imagine makes the fastball tougher to hit.
easy pass on that trade

He got Springer to the Jays right but was wrong on the final numbers

He has been right on Dach's contract with Montreal, Kulak to Edmonton. He does have sources and doesn't troll post. I'm always skeptical until I hear Passan or Rosenthal say it.

This guy had Springer before him.

Bring back Teoscar and give us hope:

1. Gimenez
2. Springer
3. Guerrero Jr.
4. Hernandez
5. Bichette
6. Kirk
7. Varsho
8. Clement
9. Roden
If Teo is willing to come back even after telling Hazel Mae in the dugout last season, don't expect a reunion, then I would rather see this lineup.

1. Lukes
2. Bichette
3. Guerrero Jr.
4. Hernandez
5. Gimenez
6. Clement/Wagner
7. Kirk
8. Varsho
9. Springer

Springer better not be anywhere near the top of the lineup anymore his time is done, but with Schneider still he manager I guess who knows, Schneider is great at finding ways for the Jays to lose games with his lineup decisions.

Bad trade. Cubs got to take back Springer. I’d include Clement if they want him. But non starter with Nimala or Bloss.

I’d give them Nimala and Bloss with Springer if Suzuki with Bellinger is on the table too.

Anyone else find it funny that after those hundreds of millions spent on a dev complex all we have managed to do is have players stagnate when they come to Toronto and the only prospects we develop are overage players who generally can't field
We only seem to develop hitters. No D and our pitchers arms seem to blow up. What all sounded so incredible has provided zero fruits.

I was actually wondering if they'd bring Teo back as a tool to make Vlad happy. Not sure if it's enough to get him to sign before hitting free agency at this point though.

Any Oilers fans that post in this thread, is this guy legit or no? He seems to have a good track record but you guys would know more because he's an Oilers guy.

I can’t say whether he’s actually got sources or just puts two and two together to try and claim to be first on the story, but he does have a tendency to delete Tweets when they don’t happen. Every time his account pops up I remember things that he “called” that didn’t happen and then look back and they’re gone to make it seem like he’s got a perfect track record.

I think it was someone from baseball America who stated Jays drafting was more of an issue than their development.

Still would like another bat with this lineup.

Well didn't Shatkins say the other day they were interested or something along those lines with bringing Teo back. The big question is would Teo even bother coming back, because he told Hazel Mae don't expect a reunion, so I have a hard time believing he will, but it would help, and maybe help someone like Vlad to stay as well. It's Atkins last year of his contract so he should try everything he can imo, but I just don't trust him.

Varsho's offense was a bit of a mirage in his final year with the Dbacks as he over performed many of his stats. However, there was hope for some improvement here

But seems like almost everything got worse for him, including his batted ball profile. He's basically a pop-up machine. Wish there was some GBs instead so he could put his speed to good use and get on base more often

Of course everyone wants that, but after getting Gimenez they don't have much salary to spend, especially if they want to get another pitcher as well.
They were willing to spend 700 million on Soto, Edward Rogers even went to the meeting.

So we’re suppose to believe there’s a special budget for Soto to spend 700 but not Burnes and Santander or something similar!? There’s no way.

These guys better pay up. All in rogers, let’s go

Which probably would of prevented them for trading for Gimenez and signing any other type of power bat if they went with Soto. I just have a hard time believing Rogers is willing to go past the luxury tax threshold to try and save Atkins job in his last year.

Either they are bullshitting about going all in on Soto or they’re bullshitting now. Signalling to us you can spend money on Soto but not other top stars makes no sense. Great, Soto is elite. But so is Burnes and Teo/Santander. The money is there, they just gotta do it. We’ll see I guess.

That was kind of the argument last off season as well, after supposedly offering at least 700M for Ohtani and then going and signing guys for cheaper salaries instead.
