I gotta say, I didn't think anything would be funnier in these Soto sweepstakes than the mass delusion of Red Sox fans grasping at straws to believe all these fake reporters, only for a hard dose of reality when none of them got a whiff of Aroldis Chapman signing with Boston.

But the national baseball media in the US abandoning all precedent when it comes to how Scott Boras has historically operated just to crap on the Jays chances might be funnier.

Scott Boras always aims to get his clients the best deal possible from a money standpoint. But all of a sudden, when it seems like Ed Rogers is willing to outbid Steve Cohen to bring Soto to Canada for the next 15 years, now Scott Boras might not take the best money offer his client gets? Yeah right

All that being said, I still think the Jays won't land him because another team will be given matching rights like Ohtani gave the Dodgers. So Jays could realistically come in with the highest offer, and then Boras will go to the Mets and offer Steve Cohen the chance to match it. Which he will.

Edit: I'm also still not convinced the Yankees are out of this. All of the other teams Soto has met with seem like leverage against the Yankees: Red Sox (biggest rival), Blue Jays (other division rival that's willing to spend big), Mets (other NY team with Steve Cohen as their owner), and Dodgers (biggest spenders in the league, and the team the Yankees lost to in the World Series). You cannot make this case for any other team.

Why can't Toronto be more of a destination as a city? Just because you have to cross the border all the time you have to overpay free agents? As a city, it's very much on par with Chicago, Boston, NYC.
Look who is running the team.....do you think the same problem existed when we were signing Roger Clemens, Paul Molitor, Dave Winfield, Jack Morris, Dave Stewart, Jose Canseco?

If Bo and Vlad both plan to test free agency we should 100% trade them now. At the very least we should trade Vlad and let Bo rebuild his value for a deadline trade. Make this a one year rebuild year. Move Gausman and Bassitt at the deadline and restart. These clowns destroyed this team and literally did everything wrong. Absolute nightmare awaits us
WON'T happen....should happen.

Both of the BOZOS running the team are on their last breath with the team.
WHY/they won't trade their best 2 players for a package when it makes the team weaker this season.

If they don't win this year (And they won't, but hopefully we won't be saddled with more "Springer" contracts on their way out)

I know it's still early and not much has happened anywhere but I'd really like to see us start signing some players. All we've done is coaches so far lol. I don't even mean the big name guys. I'd like to see a depth signing for the pen or two. Something

That doesn't surprise me. Especially if the Yankees are at a minimum 50m lower than any other offer

Winter meetings haven't started yet. Traditionally not much action usually happens before then.

Of course. It’s always west coast teams
Darvish factor. Lot easier for a kid to come to a foreign land knowing he'll have someone from his own country show him the ropes/mentor him.

Also the best of both worlds for Sasaki if the rumors of him having too big of an ego be in Ohtani's shadows are legit too. He'll be the guy there for sure.

Baseball free agency is the absolute worst for this.

Hockey and basketball at least have the draft to break up the period between the end of the cup final/nba finals and free agency.

Baseball is just endless speculation/click farming even though mostly everyone doesn't even bother engaging in talks until the winter meetings.

This is so silly. There is zero chance Soto signs with Toronto.
Yeah, there's no reason they would spend this kinda money on a player that can't be marketed like Ohtani. That one at least made sense, purely because of the Japanese market, sponsors, broadcaast licensing etc...

Soto is a great Dominican player, there is no money flowing from there. Jays already have one, and don't even wanna pay him.
