No More Excuses #MarnerOut
I gotta say, I didn't think anything would be funnier in these Soto sweepstakes than the mass delusion of Red Sox fans grasping at straws to believe all these fake reporters, only for a hard dose of reality when none of them got a whiff of Aroldis Chapman signing with Boston.
But the national baseball media in the US abandoning all precedent when it comes to how Scott Boras has historically operated just to crap on the Jays chances might be funnier.
Scott Boras always aims to get his clients the best deal possible from a money standpoint. But all of a sudden, when it seems like Ed Rogers is willing to outbid Steve Cohen to bring Soto to Canada for the next 15 years, now Scott Boras might not take the best money offer his client gets? Yeah right
All that being said, I still think the Jays won't land him because another team will be given matching rights like Ohtani gave the Dodgers. So Jays could realistically come in with the highest offer, and then Boras will go to the Mets and offer Steve Cohen the chance to match it. Which he will.
Edit: I'm also still not convinced the Yankees are out of this. All of the other teams Soto has met with seem like leverage against the Yankees: Red Sox (biggest rival), Blue Jays (other division rival that's willing to spend big), Mets (other NY team with Steve Cohen as their owner), and Dodgers (biggest spenders in the league, and the team the Yankees lost to in the World Series). You cannot make this case for any other team.
