The Matrix
Any chance we would try for both of Santander and Bregman?
Doesn’t make sense unless they know they can extend Vladdy, which I’m not sure is the case.

It’s a gong show. Either fine Atkins and let someone else dismantle this team, or else…I’m not sure there is a what else. They certainly can’t let Atkins be responsible for trading Vladdy and Bo. It’s a very strange and disturbing situation

They had 250mil to offer Burnes, and that money probably didn't come from the Soto Secret Stash. Santander will get around 100m, Bregman predictions I've seen in the 170-190m range, so theoretically, Burns money can be directed into getting both Santander and Bregman.

Bregman will be too rich for their blood though imo. I do think we got a real good shot at Santander, with the remaining money likely being spent on one of the free agent closers and then later in the offseason on a starter that may have fallen through the cracks when teams are done spending.

Exactly and if Atkins suggest we tear it down, he is the first to go. So in a self-serving manner Atkins will sign some over the hill dude(s) to contract(s) that will be stupid.

Possibly the worse two consecutive years, in Jays history, in terms of roster building.

I get the sense Atkins is spending his energy in trades as quality UFA's clearly no longer want to come to Toronto. There will be at least two more trades before Feb.
That’s really the only option at this point…

Ya unfortunately. I really have no idea what Rogers plan and management have, if any.

I think it's pretty clear at this point - build a .500 team, hope to fluke out a few extra wins to get you to ~87 wins and a play-in spot and then hope to get lucky and ride a wave of momentum like Arizona did a couple of years back. Or even Texas.

Basically the same thing that Seattle admitted to doing a couple of years back.

I think in a nutshell that is what it comes down to, he imply wanted to live in LA. The Hispanic community is significantly bigger and stronger in LA and LA is simply a better team.
Not to mention that he's probably not fond of the Jays front office the way they literally traded him for a bag of baseballs (Swanson), and the Jays inability to have signed Vladdy & Bo, I'm sure he doesnt want to be on a losing team and the Dodgers are anything but. They may not win every WS, but they'll be contending every year and every year in the playoffs.

Jays are a lost franchise now having wasted so much young talent that may very well walk for nothing.

This team is where the raptors were a year or two ago.

We need to swallow our medicine, deal Vlad, Bo, and anyone else who has value and no team control, and rebuild.

Shatkins should have been fired way before now.

I won't be buying tickets this season. I have to think fan sentiment is extermely low, and people don't have a ton of disposable income at the moment to go to baseball games. Could be an ugly, ugly season for this team.

I don't care about stadium upgrades - I will decide to go to the game based on the product on the field, and how I feel management has been building the team. 50k seats in Rogers, I think a lot of them will be empty.

It feels like there's a good chance we are headed toward absolute disaster, letting Vlad walk for nothing...

Holy shit. That is an absolutely f***ing horrendous projected starting lineup. Especially 4-9.

Which poster was arguing with me a couple of weeks ago that we don't need to add 3 bats to the lineup and 2 will suffice???

I may have actually been wrong as well. We may need 4!!! Lol.

Any chance we would try for both of Santander and Bregman?
Looking at their projected starting lineup at this moment. They need more than just those two.

I was, and probably others too.

That lineup doesn't have Varsho. Bo, Vlad, Kirk, Varsho, Gimenez, and Clement are all clearly MLB starters, though obviously mostly d-first outside of the first two. If you add two good bats, you can afford to try a young guy (Loperfido, Clase, Roden, whoever) in the last starter spot. Springer remains an issue.

1. Bo
2. Bregman
3. Vlad
4. Santander
5. Kirk
6. Varsho
7. Clement
8. Gimenez
9. Springer/whatever young OF

They're not going to add both Santander and Bregman, so that's kind of moot, but that would be a really good roster - solid offensively and easily the best defensive team in the league.

"Look at this roster projection with 7 league average or better bats who are mostly good defenders that is missing another league average bat that's the best defensive outfielder in baseball, obviously we have to upgrade on 4 of those spots"

Like I understand when your 3rd best bat is Kirk you're seriously missing on the high offensive side of the spectrum. But there's nothing wrong with having league average bats who are elite defensively at the bottom end of the roster. The roster has lots off issues, people should just complain about those, they don't need to be out here making up ones that don't exist.

Giving Springer 2 outfield spots to cover at this point in his career seems aggressive. I'm down for it if it means we get to give Vladdy 2 lineup spots to cover though :sarcasm:

At this point we should just tear down and rebuild but if we were going to do that I guess they would have brought in a new front office.
That’s what kills be about where we are at. This is the make or break season for Shapiro and Atkins and they should never have been allowed to see us through this final year of Bo and Vlad. They’ll be removed after they inevitably fail this season and we’ll be left with nothing to work off of moving forward. It’s going to be a forced rebuild after this season

I don't know why, but Alonso has never felt like a remote possibility. To be honest, Bregman doesn't either. I think Santander and Profar are really the only position players left that they have a legitimate shot at.
The thing about Alonso is he has a pretty limited market.
The number of teams that need or want a below average defensive 1B/DH minus the number of teams that can afford him start to restrict the teams that would be in on him.
The upside for me is he is probably the best pure hitter available.
The downside is he is 30 and his power may not age well. He is looking to get PAID with term and there could be a lot of ugly years on that contract.

Apparently now we are “in on” Pete Alonso. lol
Sure that’s gonna happen….

Nah i saw rumors of that when free agency started. Most people dismissed it because it creates a bit of a logistical issue with both him and Vlad being pure 1B and signing him means they can't do the rotating DH thing anymore.

Most projections have him ending up back with the Mets anyway so it's probably a moot point.

I love Big Meat Pete but not even i can really justify what he's asking for given he has as much depth to his game as a piece of paper.
