A noteworthy accomplishment: The 3rd-year DI Lindenwood University Lions men defeated the #9 ranked Wisconsin Badgers in Madison on Friday night. Final Score = 4-2. Congrats to Coach Muckalt & his LU overachievers!

Another noteworthy moment in DI men's early 2024-25 action ...

Merrimack's Student Manager Becomes Opening Day Starter

by Mike McMahon/Staff Writer ...
(Published October 6, 2024)

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — If things had worked out differently, Spencer Marquis wouldn't have been in North Andover on Sunday. He might have been on a golf course in Maine.

He was supposed to have an internship lined up at a golf course close to his home in Brunswick, Maine. Last minute, it fell through. So, the Merrimack senior found a spot as an intern with the Merrimack men's hockey program.

Sunday was supposed to be his first official game as part of the equipment staff.

Instead, he was the starting goaltender.

You read that correctly ... he was the starting goaltender in Merrimack's 3-2 loss to Stonehill on Sunday. Marquis made 22 saves.

"Not the result we wanted, but it's a dream come true for me," he said. "It's been the craziest 48 hours of my life.

"Every kid grows up dreaming of playing college hockey. I got my chance a little different than some other people, but it was a once in a lifetime opportunity." ...

A belated round of stick taps to a DI women's program that could use some serious hugs ... 🤗

Stick Taps and Snark - October 15, 2024 by Nicole Haase

St. Michael's wins! If you're new to following women's college hockey, you might not understand the importance of the Purple Knights' 1-0 win over Post on Saturday, but I promise you it was big. St. Michael's did not win a game last season. They were 0-35-1. Their last win (one of just two that season) came on February 24, 2022. That's 961 days between wins, or more than two years and seven months. There's a new staff in charge this season and it's exciting to see a win already. And congrats to Julia Chedel on scoring the team's only goal to give them the 1-0 win. ...

I'm guessing we are going to be seeing more of this after the recent ruling.
The NCAA D1 Council has a vote scheduled for this month, but not sure if it happened yet. I'm guessing when it happens the vote will be in favour of allowing CHL players to play NCAA, but with some provisions on guys who have signed pro contracts. There are currently 2 or 3 lawsuits against the NCAA that they will lose if it goes to court.
