The Lakers and Lebron James take short cuts to achieve success. They tried to add Leonard, they added Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony. They tried.

The Lakers Gm role is like that of the Knicks and Cowboys, the owner calls the shots. Pelinka was a terrible GM and had Lebron fall in his lap. He didn't do anything. A.D. fell in his lap because of LeBron. Lebron is the reason for a terrible roster. He calls the shots.

At this stage of his career Lebron is just stretching out his career to make as much money as he can from Basketball and pad his stats.

Here's an article that explain's what I am saying. It's eerie how it lays out exactly what I am saying and it was the first link when i googled "Lakers trying to make a super team"

You could build an All-Star Team around the players the Lakers have leaked their interest in over the past few months. In August, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Lakers would give up two first-round picks for Kyrie Irving. Donovan Mitchell's name made the rounds in September. On Thursday, Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes threw Bradley Beal onto the pile. Oh, and if that wasn't enough intrigue for you, Howard Beck was told that the Lakers are "waiting for a specific player."

Who is that player? Kevin Durant? Michael Jordan? The Teen Wolf? All I can tell you is that he's probably famous. That's how the Lakers do business. Eight former All-Stars suited up for them during last season's debacle. The most famous of them is just as guilty as the front office.

As the Lakers licked their wounds following a disappointing first-round exit from the 2021 playoffs, LeBron James used his Brentwood home as a setting for what amounted to the NBA's version of The Bachelor. DeMar DeRozan, Damian Lillard and likely others we haven't heard about rolled through the James residence to discuss possible partnerships with the king and his sidekick, Anthony Davis. In the end, the team's brain trust, at James' behest to some degree, landed on Russell Westbrook....

trying to improve your team through FA and trades is "taking shortcuts." so then in that case, every GM in the league takes shortcuts to improve their team?

if lebron fell into the lakers lap, then every big name FA signing fell into their respective teams laps. there was nothing different about how the lakers signed lebron compared to how other teams have signed star FAs in recent memory. the lakers knew they were in a position to contend for a title with lebron on board, so they did what any sane team would do in that situation and trade for a second star. that's not "taking shortcuts," that's simply the business of pro sports

pelinka hasn't been a great GM, but i'll give him credit for building that 2020 title team at the very least

Mitch Kupchak wanted to build through the draft like Jerry Buss did. When Genie took over that changed. Pelinka started clearing the deck to bring in Lebron and sign a roster full of 1 year contracts to open up space for A.D. This is how you buy a championship.

You obviously didn't read the article because it perfectly spells out how teams like the Lakers buy Championships. They weren't very successful because no one wanted to go there and Pelinka sucks as a GM because who knows nothing about evaluating talent.

and if you were a GM and had the chance to sign lebron, you wouldn't do what was necessary? really not sure what you're trying to argue here. that's just the business of pro basketball. you either draft talent or acquire it through trades/FA. what is so difficult to grasp about this? what the lakers did is no different than what other teams do every season

yeah, what a mindblowing concept. star FAs didn't want to sign with a bad team. that's exactly why i said originally that lebron rescued the lakers by signing there. if melo, aldridge, or PG had signed with the lakers instead, they would've still traded their future away for a second star because that's what serious teams do

and your little bit about kupchak is a lie considering he literally stated the opposite
