I don’t think we will be at significant risk to loose either. Primeau maybe more so than FarrellPrimeau, Farrell.
Under NHL contract, will need waivers:Who on Laval this year needs to clear (Waivers) to get back there next year?
Under contract:
Primeau
Condotta
RFAs (if re-signed):
Farrell
RHP
Trudeau
Simoneau
Lindstrom
Hoefenmayer
UFAs (if re-signed)
Barré-Boulet
Gignac
If either get claimed, they need to be on the claiming team's NHL roster so I am not sure if they won't clear. Hopefully they can find a couple more like Wotherspoon and Dauphin content to play on AHL deals in a big city and not need to worry about waivers. The ones who left for 'opportunity", never did get it in other organizations. This might influence guys like Trudeau to stick around on an AHL deal if the money is good, and they get stability.gotta figure both Primeau and Farrell will be big candidates for waiver pick up if they don't make the team out of camp. Hopefully KH can time it well enough to get them through... would be great to have them both back with the organization next season (if we don't manage to trade them).

I'm not sure why some people are high on Farrell or why the Habs even drafted him. it's pretty clear that it's war in the playoffs and unless a smaller player has elite skills, or at least a few elite skills, it's going to be pretty tough to make it in the NHL.Really don't think there's much risk for Farrell. I don't see a team locking a NHL roster spot for him.
Primeau could be claimed if a team has a goalie injury at camp, but not that stressed about it as he would come back when the team get their goalie back.

Farrel has really upped his compete level and passed Joshua Roy on the depth chart for offensive replacements, in my opinion.Really don't think there's much risk for Farrell. I don't see a team locking a NHL roster spot for him.

Honestly, in Farrell's case, I wouldnt want another sub 6 ft in our top 9. We already have a Caufield, Newhook and Gallagher and thats enough. I am not against small player, but a lot of those become useless during playoffFarrel has really upped his compete level and passed Joshua Roy on the depth chart for offensive replacements, in my opinion.
I think if he finishes the playoffs strongly, there will be teams who would have interest in him. I would rather he form part of a trade package than be lost for nothing. And that still wouldn't make him likely to get claimed.

Newhook is not really small. He weighs more than Matheson and almost as much as Guhle.Honestly, in Farrell's case, I wouldnt want another sub 6 ft in our top 9. It may be as injury replacement for more than 30 days.I don't see a team locking in a 23-man roster spot for him.
Maybe but small player have less reach most of the time, and they are less strong during puck battle/along the board. Slaf win every puck battle. He is 6ft 3 230 lbs. thats why.Newhook is not realy small. He weighs more than Matheson and almost as much as Guhle.

He will be waived at the same time as dozens of other players. This is more of a fantasy scenario than anything.
OK, what would you do with Farrell? He is not eligible for offer sheet.
Do you let him walk?
If you want him in Laval, do you offer him a one-year 2-way deal? If so, do you give him an interesting AHL salary, and perhaps a guaranteed total? Something like $350k / $375k?
Or do you only give him an AHL deal? He's kind of young for that.
I'd be fine with that. Usually guys like that on 2nd contracts with good AHL stats get higher than minimum AHL salaries. They will qualify and extend Farrell.
He will have an opportunity to make the Habs out of camp or get waived back to the AHL next year where he can continue to develop and earn call-ups.

We seem to agree other than his AHL salary being unknown. This is such an overthinking post.
He will get his QO and sign a new 2-way deal. He won't get a big AHL salary either. Just classic prospect stuff. His situation isn't special.
