Laval Rocket: 2024-25 Laval Rocket Thread

Rochester has a clear cut 2nd goalie who is not a prospect and Levi is the future of the org. Primeau is not in Montreal next season and the guy "behind" him is the future of the org. Also It's very clear by now that Primeau can't handle any kind of pressure.
Isn't that an argument to start Primeau, to at least try and bump his trade value? In any case, I still think you have to show some deference to the vet who got you to the playoffs. Just don't give him any slack and if Fowler plays well, you go with him now

I think Mesar will give it one more year max and then will head to Europe. No future for him in NA unless he wants to play in the ECHL.
It might be the case, it's definitely his last chance next year. With the addition of Thorpe and maybe Rohrer, Mesar better be ready to fight for ice time.

List of Laval forwards so far next year.

Xhekaj
Tuch
Davidson
Beck
Condotta
Farrell
Thorpe
Dauphin- can't imagine him being let go
Rorher-- he's coming?
RHP?
Mesar
Arseneau
Simoneau
The new Russian guy
Kidney
Dineen

Are they planning to bring back ABB?

Why though? It’s a farm team. Their only goal as an organization is development.

And the argument of "well winning helps development" holds no weight because the future guy is actually playing far better right now.

Deference? Seriously? Should he get a participation award later to make him feel better also?

If they win game 2 I would go with Primeau in game 3. If they lose that then Fowler takes over.

I guess it depends on how Fowler does, if he's lights out but we still lose than I might stick with him. I trust Vincent's judgment over keyboard warriors, myself included. We're all speculating and applying our own biases. At least Vincent is in the room and coaching these guys.

This whole controversy is so overblown, we all know how good Fowler is, but Vincent was never going to discard his starting goalie like spare change because of only 1 loss where Laval was completely flat, regardless of how well Fowler has played.

They gave him his shot to bounce back in game 1, he wasn't great, now he is totally justified to go back to Fowler and I expect him to run with Fowler now until he's given a reason to make the switch again.

Wouldn't be shocked to see them split a lot of the games over the course of the playoffs. We should be happy we have two entirely capable goaltenders.

Right bc Theodore has played recently so a great comparison to Primeau's case. I trust Vincent, he's actually managing these guys

So if the Habs decide to send down Dobes, who was the starter at the beginning of the year, does his record mean that he immediately punts everyone out of the net, you know, due to veteran status and nothing to do with the current performance of the guys in the net?

Happy Fowler's starting for sure

But it would be so interesting for the threads if we lost something like 4-1 tonight lol hmmm

If we do, then, in a conventional system I would say that it's Primeau's net. But since Primeau has been allowed to shit the bed twice in a row, I'd argue that Fowler should get to start right away again.

I don't think there is much trade value to bump. He cleared waivers last winter and I suspect no matter where he ends up this season (re-sign with Habs or somewhere else he will like be on waivers and sent to the AHL at the end of camp.

Primeau may figure it out and have an NHL career but I don't think its with mtl. he had his shot, they carried 3 goalies in 23-24 because they wanted to not lose him, traded Allen with retention to make room for him, gave him the no 2 slot in 24-25 and he failed spectacularly.

If they sign him, I don't see him earning the no 2 slot out of camp next year so he will be waived. He seems to have the skill, ability but when the pressure comes he fails. Even in Laval he was great this year until he felt the pressure of Fowler

Okay then go back to our very example of Price vs Danis vs Halak in 2006-07.

Danis was the starter that helped get Hamilton to the playoffs. Halak was his excellent backup. Both took a seat for Price in that run. Do you think that was to the benefit or the detriment of both Hamilton and Montreal?

Won't someone think of the veterans?

And that case is even more cold-blooded. Price was given it. Fowler got it out of necessity.

Everyone wants to keep making excuses for Vincent starting him, but no one wants to address the fact that Fowler got an opportunity, no different than if Primeau himself got hurt, and ran with it, but it's just OK to take the net out of his hands because Primeau played more games.

The unfair thing was to take the net from Fowler. It's just shitty circumstances for Primeau but how many origin stories of players has been from an opening due to an injury or an opportunity like that? That's hockey.

It’s two simple yes or no questions:

Is Laval worse with Fowler in net?

Will AHL playoff hockey help his development?

We all know the clear answers to both.

how about we let Vincent coach? Are you in the dressing room, do you work with these guys every day? I think Fowler is the better goalie but I'm gonna defer to the coach who actually works with them unless it's patently ridiculous which this is not. Tempest in a teapot in any case

How long are they could wait for him to give 100%. Time to put in Mesar who does.
Hey, 100%, I think Mesar is in the same “nebulous” position. At 20, he does have more of a leash.

My point with Roy is do we want to see if he can play his way out of this high intensity playoff situation or wait and see if he shows effort/urgency next year in the AHL regular season?

Show up or move on.

I mean it is ridiculous when you look at the stats
