Mailman has annoyed the hell out of me...but that's what happens when you focus in on one player.
EVERY player makes mistakes and it seems every time M makes one, it lands up in the net. There some mistakes that are PeeWee unforgivable. Two in one game a while back. But he has also played error free games. The problem is if you completely choke off his offense and only evaluate his defense, he's Struble.
Nobody has any need for a Struble.
It's the same as telling Matheson not to cross the blue line and rating him strictly as a defensive player. He'd be on the bottom of our defenseman list.
So here we are with "training" M to just play defense and then expect him to make it on that basis. Basically the same thing we did with X. But X brings another huge dimension that makes him valuable. If you take away M offense, he's just a Struble.
