How many guys have been called up from Laval over the past 3,4 years? How many have made an impact? Briefly, RHP and Roy. Roy didn’t even make the team out of camp! RHP crapped He scores a few goals and all of a sudden he’s top 6 in the nhl? No Laval player is going to move the needle this year. As I said, you think adding yet another 21 year old to the youngest team in the league is going solve their issues?

Why did they call Condotta up anyway? I don’t get why they keep scratching Pezz. He’s really pretty close to Condotta .
Pezzetta always takes dumb penalties and the coach clearly does not like him.

Caufield was sent down for a bit and then called up shortly after. Xhekaj also got sent down then called up. Poehling too. Ylonen played over 30 games after getting called up and wasn't sent down the next year.

Not to mention that if you yourself admit that Roy had an impact from his called up just last year, why would you assume he won't have an impact from his call up this year?

Calling Condotta up doesn't mean Condotta will play over Pezzetta.

My guess is that's because he's a better center than Pezz and they want to keep Evans as the 2nd center for a bit so a 4th line center is required.

Do you seriously call the Caulfield demotion a good thing? That was under the former management and was considered an abomination. As for the rest, please tell me what kind of impact the rest have had? Xhekaj can barely stay in the lineup, Ylonen is not an nhl player and Poehling took years before solidifying an nhl job after being traded multiple times. A couple goals is hardly an impact.
As I said, Roy had a few games where he looked good, but then disappeared. The bottom line is, adding another kid to this lineup won’t do squat and in fact it’ll probably hurt them. Are the Habs officially last yet? Let the kids play in a winning environment.

I totally missed they sent Kapanen back, so it’s probably a centre issue.

You want Dvorak as the 2nd line center or Condotta? Because that's the currently habs center depth: Suzuki, Evans, Dvorak and Condotta...
That all fell apart fast. Once it was Dach and Suzuki, Evan’s, Dvorak.

You're completely changing your narrative and are extremely inconsistent. No need for me to dissect every point when you flat-out say that we shouldn't call up Roy because, in the last few years, two players (one of which is Roy himself) made an impact with a call-up. It makes no sense whatsoever and top prospects need to be given a chance or else we might as well not bother playing Demidov in the NHL until the team is outside the bottom 10 according to your logic.

I don’t feel I changed anything. I was addressing the examples that you brought up. I’m not saying we shouldn’t call up prospects, I said we shouldn’t do it right now. It won’t make a difference this year. I’m addressing the ridiculousness of people wanting to call players up every time they score a couple goals in Laval.
The Habs are doing worse than expected and as I said, adding another 21 year old would only hurt him (Roy). If the Habs were competitive, winning, a top team, and if they had an opening, then I’d be all for giving a guy a look. As for Demidov, there’s never a guarantee that a guy starts in the nhl, especially a guy who’s never played in NA (I think he probably will though) but I’ll bet this team looks very different next season anyway. That will hopefully be a totally different environment with more experience. Right now, it’s depressing and no one is doing well.

The examples are absolutely in line with RHP/Roy who you considered as impact. Ylonen produced similarly to RHP yet you don't consider him for whatever reason. Roy is Roy and even though he made an impact last year, you don't think he'd make an impact this year and would cause more harm than good which he didn't do last year. A large reason why the team is not doing well is the lack of talent and Roy is one of our most talented players in the organization.

It's a shame the team is shitting the bed. Mailloux's probably ready for the NHL but with the way the team is right now, it makes sense to keep him in Laval.

As for Roy, I'd love to see him called up but ONLY if he's going to be used in the top six.

Mailloux needs the entire AHL season to learn how to defend. We know it's not close to NHL level right now.

His offense is great though.

He's sure as hell not going to learn anything on the club we have now. We're just way too young for him to come in and play. If we were a club of vets, it'd be a totally different story. But now? No. Much better to keep him away from the gongshow and you're right he can learn at an easier pace in Laval.

That's a very high bar to set for a graduation. Less than 5% of NHLers start in the top-6 upon arrival from the AHL. Even starting on a third line is a notable achievement.

The opportunity exists in Montreal for him to do it. We currently have five top six players. He's best fit with other scorers and playing him with our best players would help his development.

He would need to be paired with a solid veteran stay at home LD presence to help with the transition, which we just don't have right now. A left shooting Savard would have been ideal to take him under his wing. As it is, he's in a better place to learn in Laval.

Right. The environment in Montreal sucks for him. It's too bad but it is what it is. Him spending a year in Laval is the right move.

I don't think the environment has anything to do with it. It's a false narrative. Mailloux is just not ready to play at the NHL level. It was apparent in his short sojourn in Montreal where he floundered.

The cold reality is that there are no saviors who are available this year who can come in and right the ship. Not Beck, Mailloux, Roy or anyone else. We're 1/8th through the season. I expect that there will be a modest improvement as the season proceeds. Laine's return will help a bit.

But what you see so far is roughly what you can expect. A down season and a high draft pick in June.

Reality is a bitch.

Thank you! I’ve been fighting with all the “call him up” posters. Just cuz a guy scores a couple, they think he’ll make a difference by getting called up.
Adding another 21 year old to this group would actually hurt more than help. They’ll add vets first.

No, Dobes is better.
And that’s saying something. I’m glad they’ve both been awesome so far.
