Great point. And while I agree Kokko isn’t ready, it’s bile inducing to think that Gru’s reward for being awful in the AHL is to get a few more NHL paycheques.

Hadn’t looked at numbers in a while for CV. Grubauer with the .893 sv% feels not great, Sprong with 22 points in 17 games makes me think he’ll get called back up sooner or later. Maybe if they trade a winger like Schultz?

I mean it doesn’t really matter anymore if Gru is up or down. Stezka didn’t impress enough, Kokko clearly just needs more time regardless. Gru is done but it’s too late for the playoffs, may as well just play the guy.

My phone keeps autocorrecting Kokko to Kakko. Ugh.

That's both funny and true. The Sabres and the Kraken are "the same team" (see graph), but for different reasons. If the Sabres had two or three of the Kraken's more sane and stable veterans, they'd be much more likely to be in the playoff picture. If the Kraken had a couple of Buffalo's good young guns on their roster, they'd have a better team.

“We’ve got five first-round picks and four second-round picks in the next three drafts,” Francis said. “This is the first time in our history we’ll have two first-round picks in the same draft. And now we’ve got it twice, in 2026 and 2027.

“So, the plan is not to draft nine hockey players,” he added. “The plan is to try to move those picks or package those picks. And we feel we’re now in a position with some of the kids we’ve drafted and developed that we’re in a better position to maybe do some things to help move this team forward.”

“I do think we’re much closer than people think,” he said. “And I do think with the right few tweaks, we can get back to where we want to be, and that’s fighting for a playoff spot and getting in the playoffs.”

Scary. I replied in the Trade deadline thread on this topic. Reading this interview does nothing to assuage those concerns. Francis (management) is still selling the playoffs as the ultimate panacea.

Just Tanev being moved I think. Also, with Gourde, Tanev and Bjorkstand off the roster, we can actually have more than just 20 skaters.
