Out of curiosity, do we generally agree that the Mahura signing was a fluke success by GMRF and not some analytical masterstroke? He’s been great but none of us…to include RF…saw that coming…right?

I figured he'd be one of those solid, stabilizing guys for the FIrebirds...one that wouldn't kill you when you needed a call-up. I certainly didn't think he'd become an NHL regular, but good for him!

If RF thought Mahura was going to be one of our better d-men, he would have signed him for longer than 1 year at league minimum.

The Mahura signing was an astute move by GMFrancis and I believe he knew how good he was from past performances. Mahura in a lot places he's landed didn't really get a fair shake! Remember Mahura played the whole 82 game schedule for Florida 2 years ago. Not sure where he is long term though or whether he will be dealt at the TDL

Re-signing Mahura for another 2 years would make sense if we can get him for around 1M AAV. We don't really have anyone in Coachella who can fill that 6D spot yet unless we believe Ottavainen is ready.

Kinda wonder if RF is gonna claim Brannstrom, so he can leave Olofsson and Fleury in CV. D feels a little on the thin side with Borgen gone?

Sure.
But why whould Mahura do that?
He can get something similar to that everywhere in the league and maybe play for another cup.

Though, I think you can get similar LHD every offseason. At least as long as you use your analytics team.

Mahura is a serviceable 6D. He is not going to get term or be in demand since there is generally a few players who can fill in for what he does.

If he doesn't want it, find another body in FA.

ECH podcast really nails the dilemma here : "Is it that this team is not coachable or that Bylsma is not a good coach? Either way it's embarrassing that you have to ask that question 43 games into the season."

Paraphrasing, but pretty damn close.

Yep. I enjoy ECH because they don't sugarcoat the issues. They try to be positive but don't try to mask any issues either.

Forslund is on Amazon tonight doing the Flames/Hawks game and he's just so. damn. good. Immediate chemistry with any broadcast group and plug-and-play on any team in the league without sounding like a goober reading off a press sheet. I'm bracing myself that he may not be with KHN much longer, someone is gonna offer him an absolute bag to start doing national stuff full-time.
