I don't really think there is a foolproof plan for keeping people interested...you either have to hit people with a stick, or offer an incentive...or both. If we had more people interested in joining the league every year, I'd be interested in "relegating out" the bottom team and replacing them with a new GM....but that's probably not going to fly. Or, punishing teams a bit more strictly for not setting lineups regularly....but, I prefer to reward those who take more interest and try. Honestly, I don't have much sympathy for those who finish last (in the NHL or any other league), whether actively trying to tank or just through apathy/ineptness, and just sit back waiting for their lottery rewards to be just handed to them...the way I look at it, if you finish at the bottom you shouldn't be rewarded for it....but thats just my opinion.

That is fair...
But we will have to agree to disagree.

Its a moot point anyhow...we're heavy into "lack of interest" season right now, so nobody gives a crap about hockey or discussing league rules...so thankfully Diablo 4 will be out soon and I can spend my summer out of the Texas heat and killing undead and demons until its time to draft again. lol

We're looking for some new GMs to join us over on the GM Games forum.

We have a new game that is taking sign-ups now, for anyone who wants to make the offseason go by a bit quicker.

Happy to discuss!

what is the game played number for players to lose the rookie status?

ARTICLE 4: ROOKIE ELIGABILITY
Part 1 – Eligibility
A player qualifies as a rookie for keeper purposes if they are either:
a. Eligible for the Calder Trophy:
To be eligible for the Calder Trophy “a player cannot have played more than 25 games in any single preceding season nor in six or more games in each of any two preceding seasons in any major professional league. The player must not be older than 26 years before September 15 of the season in which he is eligible.”
OR
b. Under the age of 25 as of opening day of the following season.
AND
Skaters: less than 164 games played.
Goalies: less than 80 games started OR 100 games played.
Any rookie meeting the above definition and added after the Yahoo Keeper League deadline will be ineligible to be kept as

When posting your keepers this year, please also state the number of years you've kept them for.

Rookie years do not have to be counted. Players being kept for fourth year or more requires a franchise tag. Maximum 2 franchise players.

Example:
McDavid (Franchise) (Sixth)
Kuemper (Franchise) (Fourth)
Markstrom (Third)
Ovechkin (Second)
Sergachev (First)
Montour (First)
Ullmark (First)
Noah Dobson (First)

For anyone needing a rookie, I have Macelli and Eklund available for pick upgrades.

Could also trade one for a keeper upgrade. Looking for a RW or G in particular.

Can we talk about the rookie keeper eligibility rule again?
Right now...
Rookies can only be kept if he is drafted...
And only before the trade deadline.
Can we take the second part out?
I feel like the "before the trade deadline" can be too restrictive.

Also...
I have some rookies I can move.
I have Durzi...
Wright...
Or Raymond available for trade.

The reason is for guys like Owen Power to be in the Keeper draft rather than the waiver wire.

Yes...
I proposed the change last year.

However...
My original proposal was only that only rookies who has been through the draft once can be used as a keeper.
It was later written with the trade deadline as the cutoff date.
I think that is just too restrictive...
Because some teams might not have a spot to pick up a rookie until late in the season.

Canucker mentioned it at season's end...
And I thought he made a good point...
So I thought I would bring it up again.
Once again...
I want to propose that a rookie can be kept...
As long as he went through the draft once.
I will see if this new proposal will gain any traction...
But if it is deemed too hard to keep track...
I will be fine if nothing is done.
It is not that urgent anyways.

Now I look through my previous posts...
Is it possible to look into same day waivers?
It will help with last minute injuries and goalie requirements.
We only have 3 waiver pickups per week...
So there would not be a streaming issue.

due to me being a rookie short--I am not sure what my keepers will look. I have no draft picks so that means I needs to trade a roster player unless someone want to trade me a rookie for like a 8th or 9th round pick.

my picks No picks till the 5th round

It's worth a risk to not keep a rookie for a better chance at winning the playoffs. It's a good tradeoff. Without a rookie, you'd basically get a supplementary pick anyways which equates to a 12th round pick or later. Most of the higher end rookies will be gone so the actual gap in advantage may be smaller for a depth player to help you in the playoffs.

If we have a second and some discussion, we could put this to a vote. It's a pain knowing you can't replace an injured player, sometimes that's the luck of the draw. May also be a strategic item for GMs to consider making changes a day before.

I would like it so that GMs still have a chance to add a rookie keeper late in the season...
But I am fine if we stay put.
The rule we have right now meets halfway...
And it is probably easier to keep track.

I just think it no longer makes any sense.
We only have 3 adds per week...
And in the wake of the Pandemic Era...
There are just too many sudden injuries or absences that simply cannot be planned.
Also...
As people here already set their roster about a week in advance...
It could get people more motivated to check a little more.

Anyways...
We will see how it goes.
There are not any urgent changes anyways.
