But Hatcher was barely on the team for this 25 year span.

This is only from 2000 onward. Hatcher had 3.5 seasons with the team in the time period considered.

Yeah, I guess. I dunno where to draw the line between longevity and quality.

Kinda sad that Lindell is the 4th best defenseman in the last 25 years, that's some shit drafting/trading for prospects.

I mean, we didn't have anything good defensively between Zubov and Klingberg.

Lindell has been a high end #3 defenseman for what, 9 years now? By the end of this year he'll be at 700 GP. He's the best PKer I've seen wear a Stars jersey. I think he absolutely belongs there.

Is the criteria supposed to be on longevity with the team?

Lehtonen had some years where he kept horrendous teams from completely bottoming out, but he also stopped some decent teams from being good too. I would never put him above belfour for contributions to the team overall even if it's only supposed to be 2000-25

Lehtonen's tenure was absolutely better than two of the worst years of old ass Belfour's career where he was being replaced by Turco.

Bishop would've easily overtaken both of them for that 2nd spot though had he gotten two more good seasons without injury.

The best defensemen we drafted in the 2000's were Daley and Niskanen who had his best years elsewhere. Just unbelieveably bad at drafting defenseman in that whole decade.

The only reason the franchise stayed competetive after the Cup win until the late 2000's was that the core players of the Cup winning team all had amazing longevity and stayed qualify topend players into their late 30's . No accident Morrow , Turco , Ribs core managed managed to do shit after Mo , Zubie and Lehts retired.

You're talking about a period of time where Robidas was the team's best d-man for a couple of seasons. I don't want to sound like I'm shitting on the poor guy, but when he's your best guy back there, you know things are bleak.

Kari's tenure was a problem. His best season came when the team was in its bankruptcy era and should have been getting a string of top five picks, but no, Kari had to go and steal enough points to ensure the team never got a good draft pick.

Then when things turned around for the team, Kari lost his game and was the biggest weak link in a couple of playoff appearances.

The defensive core was so bad at the time that at the end of the day trading for Goligoski was probably correct despite losing the trade on value

Kari was never the same after this collision:

Yeah, concussions can have that effect

Again I see the Stars biggest need is getting another Tanev. The thread about Dougie Hamilton I’m not on with; too much cap and time and we don’t need more offense on our defense.

A younger Dumba type of player is what I’d like but we’ve also got to get rid of Dumba. The season is still working itself out and hopefully Nill finds that.

I’m not as hard on thinking we need a top-6 forward, even with injuries, but a gem like Dadonov if Nill can find it would work with what the Stars already have.
