Devils fan here, curious what Stars fans thoughts would be about a deal centered around Marchment for Hamilton in the off-season.

Long story short given the makeup of our defense and impending payday for Hughes, it may be smart for the Devils to move on from Hamilton this summer.

I’m not going to pretend to know Stars future cap situation or prospect pool, but it feels like RHD has been a need at the NHL level for a while. On top of that, they’re one of the few teams I could see Hamilton waiving an NMC for. With the abundance of forward talent, I’m curious to see if there’s any logic in opening a spot by moving Marchment and getting a RHD in the process.

prob fits well. Cap wise it would be tough bc we gave out too many contracts this offseason to middling to bad dmen.

If Dumba was making 1.5-2 million, he would’ve been the perfect throw-in to this deal too for the Devils to carry as a 7th D. Not at that AAV though.

Remember, Jim Nill is a class act. He's not going to do a trade before Christmas.
I kind of figured that since he is playing the call up game like last year to get more cap space. Makes me think there is no trade for a while. But could also mean he will get someone big or multiple guys on decent sized contracts.

Just would like to see a trade though.

I feel like waiting till after 4 nations for a trade would be a mistake. I've never understood why teams wait so late to make a trade or change (outside of cap reasons)

Feels like early January nearing the half way point iof 41 games perfect. Give the impact player(s) time to build chemistry, get the team some improved player and maintain a better spot in the standings.

Well if the rumors are true that they're "big game hunting", though the Kadri rumor seems to discredit that line of thinking,
They're likely using the extra time to build up additional cap space.
Right now they're projected to have around 6m in capspace by the deadline. If they then dump Seguin to LTIR that allows them a lot of extra flexibility that they won't have if they try and make a move now.
They probably don't have to worry about adding tons of assets to dump Dumba if they let the extra space accrue either.
If you think there's any credence to the Andersson post from earlier this year,
The cost to get him alone, would be high, to also get them to take Dumba is going to add additional high round picks to that cost,
if you no longer need to dump him, then you can save some of that cost

Kadri is considered big game.
