Sounds like Lou alright.
Should be an interesting sweepstakes for the rest of the league. Not very often you get someone like Dobson on the trade market, even if he's injured and having a relative down year.

Again, we have b sennecke waiting for a spot( maybe the Carlsson work load??) and we can sign/trade for a top 6 scoring winger. We don’t know if Terry and Zegras both being smaller finesse guys were just never going to be here long term or at least not both of them . Ie all of you who think Terry should’ve been named the captain. Does Terry even have a letter on his sweater at all? I forget… drysdale fits the same category as did Fowler. Both no longer are on the team. We really don’t know anything. Verbeek keeps things tight lipped.
Let me be clear...Dobson is more valuable than Terry but that would be the cost. Some would pay that price and some wouldn’t. I would.

I would too. Verbeek traded up for Solberg at the draft. He loves lunuea, mentioned him specifically when asked about trading for drysdale: it’s very possible he wants lunuea playing full time on the ducks next season and solberg the year after or even getting a bunch of games end of season while still not sacrificing on the blue line. Ie you need more than just Trouba to shelter them. Also unless gudas has a big bounce back season next season. We will thank him for his time in Anaheim and as our intermittent captain and be done with him after his current contract is up. All of a sudden, if that’s the case. Trouba is the only vet blue liner, verbeek seems old school to me and that would probably like to add at least 1 vet to his blue line to go with Trouba

I just get this sneaky feeling that verbeek will not only make 1 big deal soon. But maybe 2. Have no idea what those look like. But he’s cooking

lol +1 know nothing either. Just looked him up, he just turned 25 rhd rfa. He definitely fits the age group we need for core players

I like Dobson, but I don’t see the point or the fit, specially if we’re moving a forward for him.
If we were upgrading zellweger, Mintyukov or Luneau to Dobson maybe. But trading a forward for a dmen doesn’t make a lot of sense.
A young top pairing RHD would most definitely address one of the significant areas of need for the organization. I’m surprised you don’t see that.
Hes undoubtedly a skilled offensive D with great size. I dont know enough about his defensive capabilities but we have like 3 or 4 prospects that we hope to fill the offensive role. If your want to use them to upgrade thats one thing but using a forward to do so makes no sense. IMO.
He is not the missing piece and we would have to trade something we already are lacking, offense.
There is a reason Islander fans are okay with the idea of trading him.
He'd obviously be our best offensive D imediately. My issue is we have a ton of prospects in that mold. I don't mind the idea of him, it's a good compliment with the other Vet RD, my issue would be the cost. If they want D prospects and pics sure. He's essentially what we hope Luneau could be. I just don't like the idea of giving up young forwards.
Is Dobson not a good defender? I know he put up a ton of points last season but I thought he was solid in his own zone as well. Perhaps I just think that because I assume the Islanders wouldn't tolerate a defenseman who doesn't play good defense.
My worry with Dobson is that the assets we pay would be for the 70-point dman he was last year and not the 50-point dman he probably is. But he would definitely be an upgrade on all the RHDs we currently have. I don't think Luneau gets to that level, although maybe if he hits his ceiling.

If verbeek is really looking to add these very high end impact players. That’s great news for us!
He is a good all around D. And he is younger than Terry. And he plays a position that is much harder to fill than a winger.
I don’t think a 1-1 Terry for Dobson deal is enough for the islanders but that is the cost of acquiring top talent. Terry’s replacement is already in the system. Guys like Dobson are almost never available.

Isn't every trade robbing Peter to pay Paul? If you could just pay Paul, you'd do it and there would be no need to get Peter involved.
That said, I think trading Terry now before we know what Sennecke is and before any of the kids show us that they can be consistent 65 - 80 point guys is incredibly risky. I don't think I pull the trigger on that, although I think that Terry + a future asset would be a fair price.
He can't play defense, his offense is not what it was last year, and he is up for a new contract and likely will be asking for money as if he was a 70 point defensemen.
I'd argue using assets you have a surplus on is not, like picks and prospects or like trading Vatanen for Rico years ago when we had more D and needed forward help. This would be the opposite trading from a position of weakness.
