Rantanen, Necas, Miller
I mentioned in the Sennecke chat that Calum Ritchie is the Avs top prospect and team/linemate of Beckett. Nothing else really makes sense, and this would just push back our rebuild even more. Nothingburger.

To me, this is the part that frustrates me when I hear rumors about Zegras. They never consider the Ducks side of the equation. It's always a pick or prospect that the Ducks will just be overjoyed to have. Then, the Ducks must wait years to see if they'll make the NHL and then maybe they'll be as good as Zegras and maybe, if lucky, better. It's just nonsense.

If, for example, Friedman suggested a Pettersson for Zegras trade with Vancouver, that's at least something to talk about. There are reasons both teams might consider even if I personally wouldn't do it. I'm just tired outside media assuming the Ducks are just here to help their team.

Stars' fan here to inquire about Dumoulin's cost.

He fits what Nill seems to value to a T, and I would imagine he'll be available at the deadline. Looks like he's had a solid defensive season.

Am I off in thinking something like a 2026 3rd + a prospect like Arcuri could get it done?

What about the possibility of us including a retained Dumba as well?

I think a 3rd itself would get it done to be honest, so if you were to even add a prospect on top that’s more than fair. Shit I’d take a 4th for him now just to get Zellweger and Mintyukov more games.

The Ducks wouldn't be interested in Dumba at all, and likely not any sort of dman. The reason for trading Dumo would be to open up playing time for whichever of their young dmen are sitting. They would likely need a 7th guy, but would probably be able to pick someone up off waivers for that role.

As to Dumo's cost, he started off really well but has sort of leveled off lately. Still would be a decent pickup for someone looking for a 3rd pairing guy at a reasonable cost. 3rd plus lower tier prospect, or even just a 3rd without the prospect, is what I'm guessing the price is.

If Dumba could be taken on, even at 50%, I'd be pretty happy with a 2026 3rd and Arcuri as the package.

Dumba might even recoup a low pick at the next deadline, especially if he's at 75% retained. That part might make it trickier, who knows. I only mention Dumba because Nill has suggested any other move we make would be a "hockey trade".

Regardless, a mid round pick for Dumoulin sounds exactly like something Nill will look to pull off. He loves big, rangy D who have lots of playoff experience.

I think Dallas is content with their top 6 defenders going into the playoffs, but are wary of Bichsel struggling given that he's only 20 and is still adjusting to the NHL (and really, NA hockey).

After we trade Dumo, would a player like Soucy makes sense for a 1 year rental? Maybe we can extract another mid round pick even if this years draft appears weak, or low end prospect with a profile that we like.

We are going to have a challenging time making the new cap floor. Soucy is having his worst year but he is young, has a big shot, and brings some size although he’s a terrible fighter. Not sure if he can play on the right side… he’s got to be better than a waiver pickup right? Unless we are going to go big in free agency… but I don’t see anyone who would be a great fit. Ekblad is going to be an overpay and is trending down, and Pionk is undersized.

I would say no to that pretty fast. The whole reason to trade Dumo is to get Minty and Zell more playing time. Trading an aging roadblock just to place another aging roadblock in front of them seams counter productive.

After trading Dumo, I'd like the team to have depth. I don't want players like Hinds or Luneau coming up until they really dominate in the AHL. The last thing we need is to ice more sub 22-23 year old green prospects when someone goes down with an injury. We need to have some salty physical depth guys, but I guess we can always find very cheap options down the line (Pachal, Middleton, etc.)... I saw Soucy on the market and thought he could be an interesting one to add especially if the Canucks paid us to take him haha. But 3.25 million to be a 6-7th dman is an overpay.
