I like the drafting direction from Anaheim going for the big skillful players but have questionable skating. If we can get one of Burnevik and Masse to improve their skating, we have a potential top 6 power foward on our hands with a middle to late pick.

Like others here, I am a big fan of Burnevik's game, he really has offensive tools that can't be taught. Just have to hope the skating can at least become average.

And like @Static said, even if he becomes AHL depth that's still good for the organisation. We desperately need more good talent on the Gulls.

I think of Jason Robertson who is among the very worst skaters in the league, but he's a big body who just flat out knows how to score. It can be done, but just puts that much pressure on the scoring. Robertson had a slow start this year (pun intended) and some folks were talking about him like he was fried already

Still a longshot but it would be nice if Pastujov developed into a Robertson-lite type player.

Robertson was a bad skater, this yuear he went into the conversation for worst skater in the league.

You can be a below average skater and make it work, but there is a point where all the skill and vision in the world can't make up that difference.

Perry's skating, even at his peak, was not a thing of beauty.

He got to thrive in a time where more players were able to get away with poor/subpar skating. These days that's much more of a rarity.
That’s true but I can almost guarantee prime Perry would be an elite winger in almost any era.

He had elite hockey IQ/hands/nose for the net/reach

There’s players like Stone, Robertson, M Tkachuk that are very far from dynamic skaters that are still great players. I think Perry would fall into that group pretty obviously.

Not saying you’re saying he wouldn’t have been great in this era though

Yeah we're in agreement. I just think the bar for greatness for a slow skater is higher now than ever. Guys like Robertson and Perry benefit/benefitted from strong offensive zone awareness, knowing when to jump into plays and having a strong sense for shooting and passing lanes. Perry didn't have an otherworldly shot, but he knew when to shoot and had good aim. Stone doesn't get enough credit for his awareness that allows him to be in on plays offensively and defensively even though he's one of the slowest star forwards in the league.
