SHL today: Färjestad vs Modo 5-4.

Amazing game by Solberg, unbelievable...
1 goal, 3 assists, SOG: 5, +3, Hits: 3, TOI: 16:44.

Teammates and fans celebrate his 4 points game, Stian with some hits...
I'll include some highlights from the game later.

Great game for him. Interestingly, both Sofascore and Flashscore both show him with 1G 2A.

Nice...the other two sites show their 2nd goal as unassisted.

Some more shots from Stian's big night.
There's also an interview, I'll drop a translation below the video.

Reporter: You won at the end, it was fun out there?
Solberg: Was cool to score a goal and that we were able to win after a bad 2nd.

R: Best player tonight, how does it feel?
S: Cool with the goal, some assists, and some play in OT.

R: It was a nice goal too.
S: Perfect in the corner, Zuccarello style.

R: You also celebrated with the fans.
S: Yeah that was even cooler, it has to become a thing if I have another game like this.

R: How do you think your team played the game?
S: A little up and down, bad 2nd for us and they scored 4, but we found a way to win.

R: What happens on New Year's Eve, and are you going home to Oslo?
S: Some dinner and something else with friends. I'm going home to Oslo.

R: Congrats with your game.
S: Thanks so much.

Was his offensive explosion the result of the coach using him differently or just good puck luck today?

Maybe both? A 4 point game for a defenseman is rare, so some luck for sure. But their GM called Solberg an unpolished player, so the coach has to do something about that, something I'd say he's doing very well. From benching him for being too aggressive to trusting him in OT shows a lot of improvement.

Solberg's physical game and hits are still there, but now for the most part when the timing is correct and he doesn't put himself out of position. It wouldn't surprise me if he's a Duck next season if he continues to deliver the goods for Färjestad, he looks NHL ready. The Ducks could use some fresh inputs and more physicality on the blueline.

I'd rather let Solberg marinate longer in the SHL to instill proper habits that won't be dissuaded once he's on NA ice. Like you mentioned, Solberg is an unpolished player and playing better in recent times does not equate to being an established player. Don't confuse a spit-&-shine with a polished product. I do not trust our development coaches at both the AHL and NHL levels. I want Solberg to be a top-4, two-way defender; not a 3rd pairing hitter that cannot control his emotions. Solberg has shown offensive skills in flashes, but also at the lower levels in Norway. That offense has been suppressed due to being promoted to the men's club at age 16.

Our youth RD Helleson has been languishing in the AHL for the past three seasons and hasn't looked good. At the NHL level, he was told to simplify his game and it has been a big improvement. Despite the big improvement, he's been healthy scratched for long periods of time such as not playing for seven consecutive games.

The Ducks could use some "polished" players instead of underdeveloped ones.
