Speculation: 2024-25 Coaching/Management/Ownership

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I would love Vilardi, and I think he's exactly the type of player the Ducks need. He fits the age timeline, and he's lived in Southern California before which might be more exciting than Winnipeg. TBH, I actually think there's a chance he would sign an offer sheet from the Ducks. The issue is that the Ducks don't have their 2nd so they can't go above 6.8 mil and I can't see why Winnipeg wouldn't match that with 37 mil in cap space. He would really help this team though.
He’s my number 1 target. Plus he’s a net front PP monster.

Acquiring Mid-30s players on 4-5 year contracts will never be the answer to this teams problems.

We dodged a huge bullet only ending up with Killorn as our only long term old guy

Imagine how pissed this board would be with Killorn/Stamkos the next 2 years lol

I imagine how happy I'd be with Stamkos on Carlsson's right side instead of Killorn. Also, Stamkos would be second on the team in points.

One of the worst defensive forwards in hockey.

We’d be a worse team with Stamkos subbed in for Killorn

Except we wouldn't be subbing Stamkos in for Killorn. We'd be subbing Stamkos in for Harkins or Johnston or Leason and moving Killorn down. You think Stamkos over Harkins makes us worse?
You can make exactly the same argument for his addition to the Predators. It did make them worse. So yes, possibly.

I think at his term and salary and age Stamkos gives us less of a chance to win in the next 4-5 years than the alternatives

Wouldn't Torts change the defensive scheme from man to zone? Drysdale has struggled to make that transition. Imagine how long it would take for our youths sans LaCombe.
No need to fear. I'm of the firm belief any offensive or defensive structures are dictated directly by Verbeek. It's also why I don't believe he will replace Cronin with anybody who has a lot of NHL experience with even a modicum of success. Verbeek isn't ready to be hands off with major decisions like that.

Didn't he bench Michkov because of "attitude" reasons?

No thanks. Bring in a coach who doesn't make all of our players hate playing hockey
Yeah I'm only complimenting the accountability, which in Torts' defense is such a rarity these days across the board. He has my respect for that. But he's a dinosaur and not suited to coach a rebuilder. Maybe he can get by on a middling team and keep them middling but that's not what we need.

Cronin sealing his reputation as a joke of a coach. Everyone can see the issues with the PP. There have been numerous articles written about how static it is, and how they aren’t moving the puck quickly enough or how there aren’t enough outlets for the puck carrier.

His solution? Just chuck it at the net and for sure you’ll get more goals eventually! He’s basically one of the buffoons in the crowd who yells “SHOOT” every time someone has the puck.

so if they're coaching the PP that way, why is it we don't see it on the ice? what we see is them losing the face off, wasting 30-45 seconds to get into the zone; get into the zone then MAYBE have one guy in front of the net, one sometimes two guys on the blueline who just pass it back to each other for 30 seconds, one guy in the slot, and Frank or Mctavish just waits on side for a one timer that they normally miss.

where is the disconnect between what the coaches are asking of them and what the players are actually doing? also if your strategy is for them to just shoot, maybe start teaching them how to shoot a goddamn puck that actually GOES TO THE NET. so many shots get blocked or deflected because our guys are so predictable. do they practice like putting in rebounds at all? because they are f***ing awful at it.

To be fair, maybe they think they’re going to be effective in a game because they are practicing against the Ducks PK unit, which lets a team set up instantly with no pressure.

That's him in every situation, which is really why he needs to be sent packing. They don't have any offensive identity (I know they're technically categorized as a rush team, but that almost feels like it's an accident). They don't have a system that calls for cycle plays, interchanging on the perimeter, a zone weave, not even the triangle into the bumper that seemingly every other team has a variation of. It's literally someone win a puck battle down low, get the puck back to the point, shoot it or shot-pass praying someone is actually around the net to get a tip (or lateral pass to the other point and then shoot).

Accountability ? He basically said, I don’t care about this season, we are out of it, I guess I should give a little more of a shit, that’s on me.

Then got fired(which he was basically begging for), that’s not accountability that is being an asshole.

It's accountability for being an asshole, so a little bit from column A, a little from column B. But yes, it was always going to get him fired. And no, I do not want him anywhere near this roster.
