Named general manager of the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday, Verbeek is going to an organization in third place in the Pacific Division, in a wild-card spot, and past the early stages of the rebuild phase.​

"This team doesn't need to be rebuilt; they're in the middle of their rebuild, so this is a great opportunity to take this team forward and turn them into a contender," Verbeek said during his introductory press conference. "You don't have to come in there and look to take a long time. There's good players in the NHL, good players in the minors and there are players that have been drafted. There's a lot coming to support the growth of this team. That's truly what I'm excited about."​

“It’s not fair … me coming in two, three months and then going with a new guy,” Verbeek said. “And in the sense that I just blew up the team (at the trade deadline). So I wanted to give him a chance. And it gave us an opportunity to get to know one another over the course of the offseason.​

I think the take that PV lied his way into getting the job is a pretty ridiculous one, especially when the media has said that PV has been preaching patience to ownership for the entirety of his time here. And let’s just say you’re right and he did lie his way into getting the job, why are they keeping a guy who is running the team in complete opposition to what they were looking for? This is just cope over him not doing what you want him to do

For the record, Murray never really committed to the rebuild until 2022. And by rebuild, I'm referring to a complete teardown of the team and building it back up. Verbeek was really the one who traded out Lindholm, Rakell, Manson, and Deslauriers at the 2022 deadline effective starting the rebuild. In a sense, that was when the rebuild really began.

Then became playoff adject in 2021-22 as they were 3rd in the Pacific in Feb (w/o Murray since Nov) and 4 points from 3rd in the Pacific at the TDL.

Verbeekening happened and we finished with the 10th worst record and had two 1st rd picks (10th and 22nd). In 2023, we finished with the worst record. In 2024, we had two 1st rd picks (3rd OA and 23rd).

The result seems quite parallel, except Verbeek gets the youth movement from the Murray rebuild.

we are a few days away from thanksgiving which as well all know is a major marker for GM's.....i think we are at a cross road.....we either have the they guys/talent or we don't....Im of the belief that we do have the talent and if that is what they think then the clock is ticking either way, certain guys are getting older and others are going to be more expensive....but, my point would be that focusing on "structure" is dumb and not working, its a different game now, and they need to erase years of losing (and it obviously being ok) and start learning how to win....and if these players are not the ones to get the job done then PV needs to start making moves, either way this is the highest level of hockey in the world and losing can not be tolerated.
