While I think this team needs a coaching overhaul, I dont have faith that its going to happen in-season. I think we would have to loose some crazy streak of games for it t even be remotely possible. I get the feeling Verbeek is one of these guys who wants to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and give them time to fix things before pulling triggers.

With that said, there are some good coaches that are out there available right now. Do any of them fit into Beekers plans? Thats the question we just dont know. It seemed like his plan was to have Cronin fix some of the issues left over from Eakins before handing the team off to McIlvane. Im not sure they have seen what they need to from any of the coaches to stay on that track.

Also possible they are waiting for the right coach to be fired from their current gig.

Just a few names that come to mind:
Montgomery
McLellan
Sullivan
Hakstol
Woodcroft

Wildcards that Im not sure we would want to take the chance on:
Leach
Ott

Gallant seems like a guy you bring in when you are ready to win now. Not sure he fits here.
Ive seen Quenneville mentioned a bunch but I dont see the org approving that one. Also not sure he fits with our current roster.
I know people loved Bruce but I dont see that rehash coming.

There's always the risk with a guy like Sullivan that he succeeded because he has a top 10 all time player and another guy who's a first-ballot Hall of Famer. The thing I've mainly seen from insiders is that Crosby loves him, which is why he's gotten so much rope.

He'd undoubtedly be an upgrade, but it's unclear how much of one.

As with any GM, it can take years to truly assess some decisions. For example, in May, Verbeek is a genius with Vatrano; now it feels different. In the end, we won't know how useful Vatrano has been until he's re-signed, traded, waived, etc.... Maybe he helps bring in a long term high end defenseman or forward. That changes the entire viewpoint of his decision and that's years from now.

All of that being said, what's happening with the team does not need years of reflection to assess. Cronin does not have an answer for the team, media, or fans. The players are vocalizing issues and the fans aren't showing up as much because their play is both bad and boring. It's so clear it's not working and the data backs it up.

Verbeek's lack of action or even statements is wrong. Why hasn't he addressed any of this publicly? Where are the reporters asking any of these questions to the team? I am frustrated because they seem to think we don't deserve an explanation for what's happening..... again.

As frustrating as it has been, not a single GM would make a public address <20 games into a season, unless it was like a team that was expected to be a cup contender absolutely shitting the bed.

Aren't there videos of him doing interviews where he gives this stand-offish vibe?

I remember the McIlvane hiring video, someone asked him about the state of affairs with the Ducks and he shut the reporter down rather harshly

When you hear some of these interviews(thinking of Cronin and Gudas as some of the more recent ones), I really don’t get the sense that they think things are as bad as we do on this board. It’s a lot of “it’s a process”, “working through it”, “things will turn around”, and that sort of talk. They’re trying to remain optimistic, where I think this board seems to lean towards the sky is falling.

It just makes a person wonder where Verbeek stands in all of this. I’d love to hear his take on how things have played out so far this season.

The two interviews you're talking about are people in a position where there is some accountability for how terrible we look, so would have an interest in downplaying things. If you look to the Boosh interview, Killorn interview, or the comments from Ally about Zegras hating wing, it paints a different picture.

Edit: then again, I'm pissed about how the team is performing and extremely biased

No, you make a valid point. Most people involved with such a failure put on a brave face and try to stay positive publicly. It's expected by your employer. But it doesn't mean they believe it either. Listen to the spin Hazy pushes. It's his job to try and paint silver linings into every crappy game the team plays. It's hard to put up with that on a regular basis. I'm starting to watch some of the games with the mute button on.

On Spittin Chiclets today, both Biz and Whit have said they have heard that Cronin is “despised” by Ducks players.
This isn't really surprising to me. His reputation was being a hard-ass so even if we had been playing well and having good results the players probably still wouldn't like him

This is where is makes it really hard to properly asses players. Does Killorn suck, or is he just checked out? Is Zegras really struggling or is he just not responding to the coaching?

I can totally understand a GM blowing off some of that, but if its hampering your prospect growth, you are only going to do damage long term.

That said, you have to make sure you just arent firing a guy, but that you have the right guy lined up. Maybe you do a temporary interim coach, but you also dont want to rock the boat too much if you have your eye on a guy who you think is going to get fired elsewhere or just isnt available quite yet.

Not that surprising given how both Verbeek and Cronin have the same "hard-ass/old school" vibe about them, and they're coaching a team full of both Gen Z kids as well as vets that probably aren't going to respond to a knob of a coach with no NHL track record of success.

We can just toss it in the pile alongside the other sketchy shit we've heard about Cronin and his coaching style/systems. I still don't see him being ousted this year unless something crazy happens.
