Cronut (OK, I'm keeping the auto correct) was only hired for 2 years, right? I thought I read that but can't find it now. I'd let him ride out the year (unless a really good coach becomes available and wants to sign here). Even if we can get a good one, maybe let them come in as a special consultant so they can watch what's going on behind the scenes and formulate a plan before taking over?
I’m calling it now, hurricanes lose early rounds. Fire brindamour, we convince brindamour that we’re trying to implement the same man on man system and hire him.

The Athletic's Nov 1st Power Rankings, Anaheim comment

Maybe we're not good at developing youths or we're using the NHL as the developmental ground (rushing prospects) without proper insulation.
Probably a good time to remind everyone that the athletics ducks articles are - for the most part- essentially just hf posts with better grammar and search engine optimization and not really worthy of getting worked up about

People have been speculating all over the place but it's never been made public. My guess is they gave him 2 years with a club option for a 3rd. A cheap way to have him for 3 years if he turns out good but a cheap way to only be committed for 2 years if it goes south (like we are seeing so far).

Too bad development years can't be paused.

That would be smart. I hope a switch flips with this team, but if not I hope they cut ties with him. He might be a better coach in a different situation or with more experience, but Ducks shouldn't waste time with these young kids and hurt development.

And sometimes the Athletic is stating the obvious. It's okay having many different perspectives, even when we have to call out some BS like "Gibson rumors" and "Zegras rumors".

Can’t wait for the post game presser with Cronin after getting blown out by the Hawks.

Cronin will undoubtedly look completely disheveled and in a stupid accent blame the players and admit he has no clue how to change things. Gonna be awesome.

This is now Verbeek’s baby. He’s got his coaching staff in both leagues, he fired the San Diego GM and inserted his own guy, it’s mainly his prospects who are making up the core of the team in the AHL, Fowler and Gibson are basically the only guys remaining from the Murray regime, and…

I give him two years (brings him to 5 total, which SHOULD be enough to see some measurable progress) and one more head coaching hire to try and figure it out. If he can’t, bring in someone else.

Can’t say I disagree here. Would be shocked if Cronin is back next season. It’s clear as day to anyone of us watching, Cronin at the very least isn’t a very good motivato. Verbeek preaches hard to play against and energy etc… we’re not hard to play against, and we’re often flat.

Genuine question here, what exactly qualifies Rich Clune to be an assistant coach?
He’s a guy you Bring in on the cheap and hope you found a diamond in the rough. It’s what the cheap ass charger franchise had been doing for so long before finally paying up and hiring harbaugh. 9/10x it doesn’t work out like you want. The power play has been a lot better as the season has progressed at least

Nothing. He’s just a guy that Cronin talked to and liked what he heard. He was a consultant or something before.

First time GM hires first time head coach who hires first time assistant coach because this misbegotten franchise doesn’t deserve a management group with institutional knowledge, I guess.

I don’t know why you guys think Clune is the problem. Nobody who takes direction from Cronin is successful here, players or coaches. You think it’s a coincidence the only player to play well last year and this is the goalie who has his own coach and doesn’t take direction from Cronin?

It’s not so much I think he’s the problem. A problem for sure. In an ideal world, your assistants should bring something to the table. He doesn’t have much coaching experience, he had a mediocre playing career at best, and doesn’t seem to have any other indicators that suggest he’s a smart behind the scenes guy. Cronin needs better coaching surrounding him imo

A fish rots from the head down. The GM makes a crappy hire of an inexperienced head coach and then they both hire an assistant with a minimal proven background. The problem isn't the low guy on the totem pole. You're focusing on the wrong guy if you're expecting him to make the other two look like geniuses.

No arguments here. Again, not a big focus, just seems like an unforced error by team brass.

I think I heard it in one of the recent The Athletic's hockey podcasts where they said Cronin is the most interesting person to talk to in hockey. So I guess that wooed the inexperienced GM who took it as a sign of competence. This is all coming from an emotional place on my part but in what world does it sound like a good idea to surround young and inexperienced players with not necessarily young but inexperienced in the top level coaching? I hope all this will somehow sort itself out but you have to be concerned what's happening to the young players in this environment.
