I feel like you can make a case for all three of these guys...
- Fluery for his entire career, really, particularly his joyful love of the game and the obvious respect he commands around the league (sportsmanship)
- Monahan really as an award to the entire Blue Jackets team after coming back after what happened to the Gaudreau's, but particularly to Monahan since he was Johnny Gaudreau's close friend.
- Landeskog for perseverance for somehow returning and not giving up across and after 3 years of experimental surgery, multiple setbacks, and continuous uncertainty about whether it was even possible to make it back.
I think you could also give it to Landeskog next season just because he didn't actually play a regular season game this year, which means next year will technically be his first regular season back in the NHL, so I would personally give it to Monahan just to recognize the greatest tragedy hockey has had in many years, and then give it to Landy next year. Fleury has the weakest case IMO just because it feels more like a 'what an exceptional career' nomination.
