3pt night from Halliday is huge. He's at 1 PPG now over the last 17 games. We desperately need him to provide an option for our top 6 in Ottawa at some point next year.

Has Michael Simpson, whoever he is, passed Sogaard and Forsberg on the depth chart? Who hasn't, in fact?

I haven't

But if I'm not mistaken, Sogood is injured. Same for Subban

Damn so many names on this B-Sens team... Cody Hodgson, Elias Petersson, Sean Donovan, Alex Chiasson, PK Subban

Michael Simpson, 21, has made it all the way from his hometown of London, Ont., to being signed as a goaltender to the Belleville Senators in the American Hockey League (AHL) for the 2024-2025 season.

Fresh off his recent trip to the Memorial Cup with the London Knights last year, where he went 3-1-0 with a 2.50 goals against average, and 91.7 per cent of the shots that came at him blocked.

Over four years in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Simpson has more than 140 games under his belt, with the most shutouts in the season in 2022-2023, and the league’s best goals against average last year.

Top 6 is extremely optimistic. At best, he gets 3rd line for half the season.

He is still quite raw. I want him to have another full season in AHL then take over 3rd line the year after and we go from there.

Roster Notes:

Belleville, unfortunately, saw more bodies added to the injured list last weekend, with defenceman Wyatte Wylie, forward Tyler Boucher, and captain Garrett Pilon both going down and hurt. They join goaltender Mads Sogaard and Malcolm Subban in the Belleville Sick Bay. Still, the Senators get Jamieson Rees back after he missed 18 games after an injury in late November. The Sens are also expecting some reinforcements from both the NHL and ECHL, with Max Guenette set to rejoin the Belleville Sens from Ottawa and Kris Myllari from the Orlando Solar Bears. Guenette has nine points (three goals, six assists) and a team-leading +16 rating in 27 AHL games this season, while Myllari has 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in 29 ECHL games with the Florida Everblades and Orlando this season. Before the game, you can click here for a full list of up-to-date transactions, with lineup details available via the B-Sens social channels (@bellevillesens).

Who to Watch:

Another hat trick last Sunday afternoon has seen Wyatt Bongiovanni leap up the Belleville Sens team scoring race. With seven points (six goals, one assist) in his last three games, Bongiovanni has hopped into fifth with 16 points (12 goals, four assists). Forward Stephen Halliday has jumped into a tie for second in team scoring with 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists) after a one goal, two assist afternoon against the Penguins last weekend. While he was hurt on Sunday, Garrett Pilon’s assist put him atop the team-scoring race with 24 points (three goals, 21 assists). Sens forward Hayden Hodgson also makes his return to Lehigh Valley, where he played two seasons between 2021 and 2023, before moving on to play a season with the Ontario Reign.

The Phantoms were shut out in their last match, so they have no players on significant point streaks headed into tonight. Lehigh Valley is led offensively by 22-year-old sophomore forward Samu Tuomaala who has 25 points (eight goals, 17 assists) in 33 games this season, after putting up 43 points (15 goals, 28 assists) in 69 games during his rookie campaign last year.

I think Halliday will eventually be Ott's 4th line centre to start his career & move up the lineup as he earns it. My guess is that he will be up & down for probably half of next season & as they move into the new yr he becomes more of a permanent player if he earns it.

He could start on LW while Ostapchuk plays centre but I think over time he is better suited for centre & Ostapchuk better suited for the wing. They seriously need to replace Giroux even if they re-sign him for a yr & could move him down a line to get more scoring out of their 3rd line.

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Perron - Stutzle - Giroux
Greig - Pinto - Amadio
Ostapchuk - Halliday - MacEwan/Gregor or Gaudette
